Former ITV This Morning presenter Fern Britton shared an update on her weight loss, as fans continue to praise her remarkable transformation
Fern Britton has revealed that her impressive weight loss journey was not just for her own benefit, but also for her four children. The former This Morning presenter reportedly shed a whopping five stone after overhauling her lifestyle and re-evaluating her diet.
In the past few years, she’s put an end to her smoking habit, embraced running via the Couch to 5k app, and made significant alterations to her diet in a bid to feel healthier and more energetic.
Fern’s initial motivation came from a practical need in 2023, when she underwent a shoulder operation and wanted to be in the best possible shape beforehand. Looking back, she sees that decision as a positive turning point in her life.
“That and being pain-free after the op has been a great gift,” the 68-year-old shared. “It’s given me such a boost. Actually, I’m very proud of myself. People are obsessed with what size you are, and this isn’t about that.”
She further emphasised the importance of maintaining good health for the sake of her children.
“This is about staying fit for my kids, so they don’t have to worry about me, and it’s about enjoying this stage of life,” she confided to Woman’s Weekly magazine.
Commenting on what’s next for her, she added: “I don’t know what I’m doing next month or next year, so looking at the future can be a bit scary, but also very liberating.”
Fern is a mum to four grown-up children; twins Harry and Jack, 31, and Grace, 27, from her first marriage to Clive Jones, and daughter Winnie, 23, who she shares with chef Phil Vickery.
The presenter, who is also an author, has been candid about her health and weight struggles over the years.
In her memoir The Older I Get: How I Repowered My Life, Fern reflected on being advised to undergo gastric band surgery back in 2006, when she was reportedly a size 22.
Although the procedure initially worked, she confessed that the subsequent years were tough.
“It helped me lose a lot of weight while exercising regularly and eating good, wholesome food,” she penned. “The irony of a gastric band is that it allows wine, chocolate, cakes, anything full of sugar or fat, to slip down very easily.”
This time around, she opted for a different strategy by embracing fitness, choosing meals rich in protein and vegetables, and swapping unhealthy snacks for healthier options.
Fern’s transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed, with fans showering her with compliments online.
While promoting her latest book A Cornish Legacy, Fern shared a joyful picture of herself holding the new novel, in view of her 168,000 followers. Among the comments, one fan exclaimed: “Omg you’re looking amazing!”.
