Final hours of Brit mums fighting for lives after being run over in Ibiza

Lauren Holmes, 27, and Ebony Cordingley, 26, had been enjoying a meal in the hours before they were hit by a taxi on holiday in Ibiza, according to a family member

Two British mums who have been left fighting for their lives after being run over in Ibiza had been ‘on their way back to their hotel’ after enjoying a meal, a family member has said.

Lauren Holmes, 27, and Ebony Cordingley, 26, were enjoying what should have been their last night on the Spanish holiday island when they were struck by a taxi in the early hours of Tuesday morning, leaving them with serious injuries. A 24-year-old Spanish man was reportedly made to undergo a drink-driving test in connection with the incident, though no arrests have been made.

Doctors told the family of Ms Cordingley, from Shipley, West Yorkshire, that the mum-of-three had suffered a bilateral lower limb fracture, multiple rib fractures, bleeding on the brain and a punctured lung, along with a number of open wounds that required emergency surgery. Her condition has now improved after initially being described as “critical”.

Ms Holmes, a mother of two, meanwhile suffered two broken legs, a broken arm, a fractured spine, broken ribs and a punctured lung. She remains in intensive care at a different hospital.

Ebony’s sister Shannon, who has set up a GoFundMe to “support her and care for the boys”, said today she understood the women had been crossing the road back to their hotel after a meal when they were struck by the taxi.

She added: “They weren’t drinking, weren’t leaving any clubs, they played in a park on swings, went for a walk, went for food then walked back to their hotel not realising the dangers of the roads around there.”

Ebony wrote on the fundraising page: “Right now, doctors are doing everything they can, but the reality is that her recovery will be long, uncertain, and incredibly difficult. We simply do not know yet how serious or lasting her injuries will be. What we do know is that she will need time, care, and strength to heal — and her three young sons need their mum more than ever.

“As a family, we are doing all we can to support her and care for the boys, but the challenges are overwhelming. The costs of being by her side abroad, potential medical expenses, and the long-term support her children will need are more than we can manage alone.”

Another GoFundMe page has been set up by the family of Ms Holmes, who said they had received a quote from the air ambulance team “who can assist Lauren in her return home” and take her to and from hospital at each side of the journey. “Lauren is desperate to come home to receive her treatment that she so desperately needs”, the family added.

“We don’t know what the future holds but we are holding onto hope, your kindness will make a massive difference as we face the long road ahead to get our girl home.”

A Foreign Office spokesperson told the Mirror: “We are supporting two British nationals who have been hospitalised in Spain, and are in contact with the local authorities.”
