Escape the crowds at popular beaches like Brighton and Camber Sands, and opt for one of England’s hidden shores instead. From calm, peaceful stretches to breathtaking natural beauty, these lesser-known beaches are perfect for those seeking a serene coastal retreat.

As travel expert Laura Miller from Away Resorts explains: “England’s quieter beaches provide the perfect solution, allowing visitors to unwind, explore unspoiled landscapes, and enjoy coastal charm without the hustle and bustle of crowded hotspots.”

“Whether you’re after scenic walks, wildlife spotting, or simply some time to relax by the sea, these lesser-known beaches are ideal for a refreshing and stress-free summer getaway.”

Ready for a peaceful day by the sea? Here are five of the best-kept beach secrets in England that promise a relaxing retreat this summer, as reports the Express.

Five quiet UK beaches

1. Ringstead Bay, Dorset

While Weymouth Beach is a favourite among families and beachgoers, nearby Ringstead Bay remains a tranquil haven known only to locals and those in the know.

Tucked between Lulworth Cove and Weymouth, this picturesque pebble and shingle beach boasts crystal-clear waters, scenic walking trails, and a peaceful ambiance perfect for picnics and leisurely strolls.

“If you’re seeking a tranquil and secluded beach in Dorset, Ringstead Bay stands out as a hidden gem,” says Millar.

With minimal development and uninterrupted sea views, it’s easy to see why this spot is quietly winning hearts.

2. Greenwich Bay, Yorkshire

Though Scarborough Beach often steals the spotlight on social media with its picturesque twin bays and lively promenade, Greenwich Bay remains a hidden gem for those seeking tranquillity by the sea.

For those keen on serene coastal walks, bird watching, or simply a bit of quiet contemplation at the seaside, this idyllic retreat is just the ticket.

“It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot with stunning natural scenery, less crowded than the more popular beaches like Scarborough or Bridlington,” Miller pointed out.

3. Church Ope Cove, Dorset

Snorkelers and swimmers flock to this sheltered cove in Dorset, drawn by its clear waters and rugged landscape, offering a peaceful alternative to the more frequented sands.

4. Pedn Vounder Beach, Cornwall

Hidden away between majestic cliffs and crystal-clear azure waves lies Pedn Vounder Beach, a Cornish haven perfect for those yearning for both privacy and breathtaking views.

5. Birling Gap, East Sussex

There is fossil hunting, rock pooling and the stunning sight of the white chalk cliffs in Birling Gap to admire, but without the tourists clogging up Camber Sands.
