Passengers are being urged to make one change while packing a suitcase for their holiday to prevent strangers from easily finding out what their personal information is. Flight attendant Ally Case, who goes by @Allycase1 on TikTok, shared a simple yet effective way to protect your private data when travelling at the airport.

The flight attendant said: “Always make sure that your luggage tag has the contact information facing the other side.” She explained: “I see so many people with their luggage tags and information displayed for everyone to see.”

She listed that, at a glance, people could remember your name, phone number, email, and home address—or whatever else you include on the tag itself. Ally said: “That is just way too much information for just anybody to have [access to].”

Making sure your tag is flipped around, nobody has access to your personal details. If you are ever separated from your luggage, the information is all still there and can be found with one simple flip.

Ally said: “In the even your bag is actually lost or stolen, whoever finds your bag can just take out the piece of paper and flip it to the other side to get your contact information. It’s great to have a luggage tag, not one having your information displayed for anyone to see at all times.”

Some luggage tags include privacy covers, but for those that don’t, it’s always worth considering the flip trick. You can buy these tags from millions of retailers that sell travel essentials.

There are many options out there, such as these basic versions from Boots for £4. And, perfect for a trip to Disney, these Mickey & Minnie Mouse Luggage Tags are £10 at Very.

This Teskyer Luggage Tag (3 Pack) is available on Amazon for £6.99 and comes in a variety of colours to match your suitcase. It clips onto your case easily and offers a built-in privacy screen, but having the info card flipped would still be a good idea to prevent anyone from taking a peek when you’re not looking.

Many people were pleased with these tags in the reviews. One said: “Good quality and easy to place on cases. Love the fact that your details can be kept private. Smart looking and delighted with my purchase.”

Another added: “Strong and sturdy once attached to the luggage. Easy to attach and good that the traveller’s details aren’t immediately obvious [and] accessible.” A third wrote: “Lovely, sturdy and bright tags for your luggage. The bright colours make it easy to spot on the luggage claim area!”

But, some found issues. A shopper claimed their tag “snapped off” during a flight while another added: “Crazy difficult to get the paper out from inside the tag. Ended up ripping one in half to get it out and using my own piece of paper.”
