Liverpool are hoping to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz this summer and the 22-year-old has already explained how Arne Slot can get the best out of him
Florian Wirtz is set to join Liverpool this summer and the Germany playmaker has already explained how manager Arne Slot can play to his strengths. Manchester City and Bayern Munich were also linked with Wirtz earlier this summer, but the 22-year-old has made it clear he wants to join Liverpool.
The Reds are understood to have lodged a third bid worth an initial £100million plus £15m in add-ons, but Bayer Leverkusen are holding out for £124m. Liverpool remain confident that an agreement will be reached and Wirtz will offer a new dimension to Slot’s attack.
Wirtz has played in a variety of roles for Leverkusen over the years, including out wide and up front. However, he prefers playing as a No.10 and had previously explained that he enjoys being given freedom to express himself.
“What I do is mostly very spontaneous because it appears to be the best solution for me in that situation,” Wirtz told Werkself Magazin last year. “But sometimes I suspect or know beforehand what the opponent will do, and then it’s easier to do my own tricks because I can see how the opponents move and when they’ll dive in.
“It’s definitely one of my strengths that sometimes I know in advance what will happen — and then I can concentrate on the solution so that I anticipate the situation and thereby create an advantage for myself.

“I notice what opponents do most often in what situation and whether I can play a nutmeg as the opponent has made a long stride. Those are things that come with time and experience.
“I’ve learned to watch what the others do and then make the best decision. You always have to be prepared to learn if you want to become a better player.
“As a child, I always wanted to be everywhere on the pitch. I think one of my biggest qualities is that I can run a lot also at pace. I just have the physique to get into lots of challenges.
“I give everything in every game for us to win. So I also look for challenges or run back because I know that’s part of helping my team be successful. I want to give my all and run until I can’t anymore.”
Liverpool have already confirmed the signing of right-back Jeremie Frimpong as the replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has joined Real Madrid. Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is also set to join from Valencia and they are in advanced talks with Bournemouth about a move for left-back Milos Kerkez.
