Foodies are splashing £19.90 for French toast dish for very strange reason

By staff22 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Foodies are going absolutely wild for a French toast dish at a popular restaurant for the most bizarre reason – and it has something to do with a viral trinket…

Diners have been left absolutely flummoxed after a restaurant began charging nearly £20 for a brunch dish for a bonkers reason. Manchester’s Deansgate-based Bruncho has crafted a French toast creation that guarantees to deliver a wallop for multiple reasons. The dish is billed as “two thick brioche French toasts, Nutella sauce, Labubu Dubai chocolate, Turkish Kaymak topping served with seasonal fruits, an ice cream cone and bobas”.

Indeed, you’ve read that right – it features ‘Labubu Dubai chocolate’. For those who haven’t caught on (seriously, where have you been hiding?), Labubu figures are PopMart’s arguably most sought-after collection, available as toys and keyrings.

It’s the name of a character from ‘The Monsters’ brand, portraying an elf-like creature with razor-sharp teeth, oversized ears and a dishevelled look.

Since late 2024, punters have gone absolutely crazy for them, and the popularity of them appears to be gathering even more momentum.

But would you shell out £19.90 to get some Labubu figures adorning your French Toast?

Bruncho shared the French toast creation on their Instagram, writing alongside the clip: “We’ve been going LABUBU CRAZY with our French Toast ever since it’s launched, so take this as your reminder to come down and give it a go!

“There are LIMITED amounts available and once it’s gone, it’s gone… so be quick!”

They also uploaded it to their TikTok profile, where reactions to the offering proved decidedly divided.

“We all died in 2020 and this is hell,” one person fumed about the fact you can get Labubu figures on your French toast, making it pricier as a consequence.

Some critics claimed the French toast was overloaded with “too much c***”, making it unappetising.

One disgruntled woman vented: “Pleassseee, brands you do not need to put Labubus and Dubai chocolate in your food to advertise it.”

Bruncho responded to her critique, retorting: “But they’re so cute!”

Others jumped to their defence, stating: “To be honest, though, brands only expand on recognition by following trends. A normal post on their food definitely would not get past maybe even the 20 likes for a small page like theirs.

“Coming from somebody who hates the Labubu consumerism, I understand taking advantage of its popularity to make some extra sales.”

A joker chimed in: “Ahh yes, the 24k gold matcha strawberry Dubai Chocolate Labubu flavoured moonbeam ice cream crumbl cookie,” referencing a viral meme.

Manchester also came under fire, with one critic writing: “I’m actually so done with you all, how has Manchester become edible Labubu central? Enough is enough.”

“I never thought I’d ever have to say ‘oh – and hold the Labubu’ in my life until this moment. I’d 100% eat the toast,” another woman shared. Bruncho does offer other French toast options without Labubu’s.

The lavish meal looks stunning, adorned with edible flowers, fruit, ice cream, and of course, adorable little Labubu’s filled with Dubai chocolate.

Bruncho has been contacted for comment.
