The Foreign Office has issued urgent safety advice to Brits planning on travelling to the Canary Islands in Spain – warning them to be ‘careful’ about where you’re travelling to
The Foreign Office has been forced to share an urgent safety warning to anyone travelling to Spain, including the Canary Islands.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO says severe weather conditions are impacting a range of areas along the Mediterranean coastline in Spain. Because of this, it issued an advisory to Brits travelling to the area, recommending they are careful about how and where they’re travelling to.
In the message, the Government department said: Severe weather and flooding is affecting many areas along the Mediterranean coastline of Spain. In particular, many parts of the Valencia region and Castilla La Mancha continue to be severely affected by recent flooding.” The Foreign Office then added that journey times may be impacted by the flooding.
They explained that it’s best to: Check the latest weather warnings from Spain’s meteorological office before you travel and follow instructions from local authorities. In addition, they reminded travellers who are travelling to Spain via France, to check the travel advice for France before starting the journey.
For travellers who are contemplating travelling to Spain via Gibraltar, the Foreign Office also advised taking the time to check the travel advice for Gibraltar before beginning to travel. It comes as people travelling to Tenerife have been warned to be aware of ‘deadly infection’ that’s currently gripping the island.
The island has recently seen a sharp rise in the number of cases of ‘deadly’ winter viruses on the Canary Islands, with a surge in the number of cases of Covid, flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This spike in cases led to the Canary Islands Association of Primary Care Physicians issuing an official warning.
