Emergency services were dispatched post-haste to Gregg Street in the city following a distress call just after 5.20pm on Sunday, June 8.

The scene was swarming with law enforcement, as roughly ten police vehicles, including the Tactical Support Group, converged alongside a fire engine and two officers’ cars in response to the crisis.

Inspector Davison reported:

“We received a report at approximately 5pm of an assault and extensive criminal damage caused to two ground floor flats within a building in the Gregg Street area of the city.”

He detailed the vandalism: “Windows of two of the flats were smashed – and a chemical substance, believed to be petrol, was poured through a letterbox.”

The Inspector confirmed the swift arrival of emergency teams:

“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from other emergency services.”, reports Belfast Live.

In a stroke of luck, there was no need for evacuation and no severe injuries were reported.

Davison continued: “Four people, three men aged in their 30s, and a woman, also aged in her 30s, were arrested at the scene in connection with the investigation.”

He noted that the inquiry was still in its infancy:

“Enquiries are at an early stage this evening – and we are still investigating the full circumstances of what happened.”

Despite the initial alarm, the incident’s status was eventually downgraded.

The Inspector made an appeal for public assistance:

“We would appeal to anyone with any information which might assist us to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting reference number 961 08/06/25.”

He also provided an alternative contact method:

“Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.

“You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.”
