Free and simple way to make your garden lawn look healthy and ‘support growth’

By staff2 August 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Gardeners have been urged to ‘support growth’ with a simple trick. And, the best thing is, you can use items that you find in your home to do it

August is already here, and if you have been looking forward to it just like we have, you’ll be itching to spend time in your garden. But if your grass is more ‘drab’ than ‘fab’, fear not – a gardening expert has shared their top tips to get your lawn lush again without breaking the bank.

The experts at Drainage Channel have shared that “composting” is your secret weapon for a green lawn. Speaking to Fabulous, they shared: “One of the best things gardeners can do is to start composting.

“By turning your kitchen scraps and lawn clippings into compost, you’re not only reducing waste but also enriching your soil with vital nutrients that support plant growth.”

And before you chuck those eggshells, think again – they could be used for your lawn, reports the Express.

They revealed: “Adding calcium to the soil through crushed eggshells is crucial for the structural strength of plants.”

To fend off unwanted critters, they recommend a gentle “mild soap and water solution mixed with neem or peppermint oil” as a “natural deterrent”.

Just remember to give it a try on a small patch first “to ensure it’s safe”.

The gardening expert also shared a common mistake gardeners make by drowning your plants with too much H2O, which can lead to “root rot”.

They warned: “We advise watering deeply but infrequently to promote strong root development.”

For an extra helping hand, they suggest putting down some organic mulch around your plants to keep them quenched.

They further suggested that spreading a layer of organic mulch around your plants can help keep moisture in, keep weeds at bay, and improve soil quality as it decomposes.

Lastly, the expert shared that Epsom salt could be a “fantastic” boost for your plant’s overall wellbeing.

Simply dissolve a “tablespoon in a gallon of water and use this solution to water your plants once a month.”
