One woman said she was not told by Me & Mrs Jones hotel in Portstewart, Northern Ireland, that it was ‘closed for refurbishment’, leaving her scrambling to find a place to stay for the night
A woman has slammed a four-star boutique hotel in Northern Ireland after turning up for a booked stay and discovering it was closed.
Nicola Dunseith had reserved and paid for a night at Me & Mrs Jones in Portstewart with her husband to celebrate her birthday, but was shocked on Saturday, October 11, to see a sign on the door stating the hotel was closed for refurbishment.
She said she had not received any prior notice from the hotel about the closure and that she had been unable to contact anyone there for an explanation.

Nicola added that the refurbishment signs appeared on Friday and other guests also turned up unaware of the situation, forced to find alternative accommodation at short notice, Belfast Live reported.
A sign on the door informs visitors that the hotel is “entering into a refurbishment project for upgrades”.
Nicola said: “We were looking forward to having a nice night away and couldn’t believe it when we arrived at the hotel and saw that it was closed. We have not heard a thing about this and have not been able to speak to anyone at the hotel to find out what is going on.
“It is disgusting the way that we have been treated and we have been told that there have been lots of other people turning up to the hotel only to find out that it is closed. Thankfully we managed to find somewhere else to stay the night and will try and get our room refunded through Booking.com but it is horrible that it is treating customers like this.”
The hotel has a solid 4.4-star rating on Tripadvisor from 770 reviews and scores 8.3 out of 10 on Booking.com based on 570 reviews.
Me & Mrs Jones has been contacted for comment.
