Nespresso fans no longer have to feel frustrated when their favourite flavour of coffee doesn’t come in the size of pod they want – as this ‘game-changing’ hack lets you tweak it
Those who have a Nespresso machine, whether they’ve had it for a long time or got one for Christmas, will know that it can be a bit frustrating if you’ve only got ‘big’ coffee capsules, but you just want an espresso shot.
The Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine has technology that reads the barcode on each capsule, automatically adjusting to the perfect settings for that coffee. The Vertuo brews espresso, double espresso – and bigger cups of coffee.
But it turns out that even if you have a bigger pod, you can still use it to brew a double espresso, thanks to this clever hack. Taking to TikTok, online content creator Mark James shared the ‘double click’ hack, which he said would “revolutionise your Nespresso coffee game”.
Mark explained that he has a Nespresso Vertuo Pop, and although there are amazing flavours that go in the machine, they are “always in a bigger cup size”, but he likes it to be a double espresso. But thanks to his hack, he can make any pod into a double espresso.
Demonstrating the hack, he said you should put the big pod in, and instead of clicking the button to start it once, you need to “quickly double tap and it will turn blue”. “That’s going to give you a double espresso shot rather than a long cup shot which is an absolute game-changer because it opens up all the flavours of the long cup pods and making double espressos and lattes and things like that,” he explained. But it doesn’t end there – you can also make a double espresso shot pod into a single espresso shot pod by double-clicking.
Unfortunately for Nespresso fans, this doesn’t work on every machine. It will only work on the newer models of Nespresso Vertuo, such as the Next and Pop.
However, you can still adjust the volume of water by stopping the brew cycle. Simply press the start button again when you want to stop. It’s not exactly the same as the concentrated extraction of ‘expert mode’ in the newer machines, but it’s still good to know how to do.
Nespresso fans were amazed by this hack, with one person saying: “So clever. Gonna have to try this,” and others couldn’t wait to try it for themselves.
