Gardener’s mulching hack makes the job ‘much easier’ and doesn’t harm plants

By staff23 May 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Adding mulch to your garden can help fertilise plants, keep them warm and even stop the growth of weeds – but it can be a tricky job. An expert has shared a clever hack to make it much easier

Mulching your garden can seem like a daunting task, but there’s a clever trick to make it a breeze. Adding mulch is fantastic for fertilising plants, keeping them toasty and even halting the pesky growth of weeds. Acting as a shield, it stops weeds in their tracks by blocking sunlight from hitting the soil.

Sure, it’s a help for your greenery, but nobody enjoys spending the day hunched over, scattering mulch. Get it wrong, and you risk harming the thriving plants already in place. Fear not, Revell Landscaping, hailing from Washington State, has cracked it with a solution that’ll save your back and safeguard your seedlings.

They’ve broadcast two smart mulching tips on TikTok that’ll transform this chore into child’s play.

First up: deploy plastic pots to shield your fledgeling flora. This clever move prevents any damage while you liberally scatter mulch around without a worry.

Revell Landscaping assures that this technique not only protects your plants but also conjures a moat to trap water. Plus, it maintains a safe distance between mulch and plant, averting any chance of rot.

Next, take heftier pots to swagger through your mulching mission. With your green wards under wraps, no need for tiptoe tactics with the mulch — just lavish it across the land and level it out.

Take off the plant protectors and job done. TikTok users are marvelling at the sheer brilliance of this hack. “Wow.. so obvious and simple. That’s an awesome idea. Thank you so much,” marvelled a stunned commenter.

Another penned: “The plant cover trick is so clever. I’m struggling though trying to mulch my bed with a lot of smaller sprouted plants.”

The company then advised opting for tinier pots or a less hefty layer of mulch.
