Your lawn mowing routine is essential for maintaining a healthy, vibrant grassy area. Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or taking your first foray into gardening, grasping the fundamentals can turn your patch of green into an enviable oasis. It’s often perceived as a simple chore, yet countless individuals seem to be getting it all wrong.

A gardening whizz, who shares their expertise under the moniker Black Lotus Gardening, has caused quite a stir online with their revelatory advice in a video that skyrocketed to virality on social media. In the TikTok footage, which notched up over 35,000 views, the Melbourne resident is shown wrestling with stubbornly tall grass.

However, he reassured his followers with a life-altering tip: “I used to just smash the lawn mower into the tall grass and pray to the lawn gods.” He revealed: “Then after gaining enough experience, I decided that it worked out to be faster mowing the lawn twice.”

In the video, he’s seen adjusting the height of the mower using a switch on the side before giving the lawn an initial trim to shorten it somewhat before setting the blades back down to the preferred height for a final cut.

The Aussie gardener elaborated: “Once on a high setting and then again on the desired setting. It’s a bonus if you line trim the edges in between since it is easier to see and you can catch it on the second run-through.”

TikTok users were left stunned by the clip as many people didn’t know they could adjust the trim on their lawnmowers. One user said: “Oh, you’re a genius I would have never figured that out.”

Another added: “Nah, just lift the front of the mower when it’s about to shut off,” while a third commented: “Wait….. mowers can be adjusted?”
