The joy of seeing your garden burst into life with vibrant flowers is one of the many delights that summer brings. With the warmer climes and extended daylight, gardens become a kaleidoscope of hues, yet it’s crucial to maintain your blooms to keep them looking their finest.

Regular tasks like watering roses and deadheading spent spring flowers are essential for a flourishing garden throughout the sunny season.

Even as gardens awaken with floral splendour, it’s not too late to introduce new plants to your outdoor space.

While certain varieties are traditionally pruned in June, there’s still a plethora of plants that can be sown at this time, and one green-fingered guru has divulged her top five flowers for planting in the summertime to achieve “nonstop blooms.”

If your flowerbeds appear a tad drab or sparse, don’t wait until next year to try again; plant these blooms now for an immediate seasonal lift.

Gardening aficionado @annaruthdavis took to TikTok to share her top picks for summer flowers. She reminds viewers in her video that it’s important to “remember to deadhead each flower as it is done blooming” to promote a continuous display of blossoms all through the summer, reports the Express.

Five flowers to introduce to your garden for endless summer colour

Zinnias

Available in a spectrum of hues, including vibrant pinks, reds and oranges, the delightful zinnia thrives in sunshine and warmth, making it a perfect choice for summer.

With varying heights, they can effortlessly add depth to any flowerbed. Despite their love for warm weather, they do need regular watering.

Dahlias

Originating from Mexico, the bushy dahlia instantly adds a flamboyant touch to flowerbeds with its bold petals.

With a range of sizes and colours, from classic white blooms to dramatic dark reds and purples, they’re fantastic for livening up borders. Needing up to eight hours of direct sun, they’re a robust addition to a summer garden.

Penstemons

Not only do penstemons inject an immediate splash of colour to gardens, Anna revealed that they’re also a favourite amongst Hummingbirds. Blooming until the first frost appears, the elegant petals are ideal for mixed borders exposed to full sun.

Marigolds

Sporting striking shades of yellow and orange, marigolds are a flower often synonymous with summer, and are a top pick if you’re aiming to attract more pollinators into your garden. Making a bold statement in borders, they can also be planted in pots.

Cosmos

A sun-worshipping flower that yields heaps of feathery foliage, cosmos comes in tones of white, pink, red, orange and yellow and effortlessly brighten up any garden. Requiring at least six hours of sun, they’re a favourite among many gardeners seeking a low-maintenance addition.
