Muhammad, a one-year-old boy, can be seen writhing in pain amid Israel’s blockade on the Gaza enclave, which has prevented citizens receiving the vital aid they need to survive
Images have captured the shocking extent of the horror caused by Israel’s blockade of Gaza and the ongoing conflict in Palestine.
As many as 70,000 children are said to be in a state of starvation in the bombarded enclave, where milk, bread and other necessities are in critically short supply.
The population’s sole sustenance comes in the form of humanitarian aid – which has been effectively cut off due to Israel’s blockade of the bombarded strip.
Pictures that are almost too troubling to view show a one-year old-boy called Muhammad writhing in agony as his ribs poke through the skin of his tiny, emaciated body. His mother looks on hopelessly in the tent – a makeshift home they’ve been forced to exist in.
The director of Shifa hospital in Gaza City estimates as many as 900,000 children are having to go without food on a regular basis, with medics expecting an onslaught of preventable deaths – noting that those suffering with kidney issues or diabetes are most at risk.
Today, the World Health Organization’s chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, told reporters that Gaza is “facing yet another killer on top of bombs and bullets – starvation”.
Ghebreyesus aimed directly at Israel in his comments, branding the country an architect of “man-made mass starvation” due to its blockade on the enclave.
