Actress Gemma Atkinson and professional dancer Gorka Marquez are proud parents to daughter Mia and son Tiago
Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez have revealed their plans to have a low-key wedding after waiting for their children to grow up first. The pair have said they will finally be getting married after having their son and daughter beforehand.
The couple are parents to daughter Mia and son Tiago. Despite waiting to get married, the pair have said they still plan to have a low-key celebration.
They’re still both unsure on where exactly they plan to tie the knot but Manchester or Spain is on the list. They originally planned to wait until Mia was “old enough” but then son Tiago came along.

Gorka and Gemma discussed their upcoming plans on their podcast, Lost In Translation. Gemma started out by saying: “We will get married. We wanted to get married ages ago, didn’t we?,” before Gorka agreed with her.
She added: “Then Mia came along, bless her, and we said, we’ll do it when Mia’s old enough. She can be involved. We can get little floral dress and then Tiago came along and I just don’t want to have a wedding whereby we’ve got a two-year-old climbing up us because he’ll want to be with me, he’s a proper mummy’s boy isn’t he?
“He will want me to hold him and all this. We’ve seen venues in Spain. We spoke about doing it at a town hall in Manchester, which is lovely.”
Gorka then explained that they also considered simply going to “sign a document” and going home. They went on to say they don’t want much fuss on their big day and Gemma’s never been keen on a big white wedding.
“Yeah, I don’t want a big fuss. I’ve never ever wanted a big white wedding, ever. It’s never been on my radar. So we’ve said the two of us can just go, get it done and then just have a little party after for everyone. That’s what my sister did,” Gemma said.
This comes as Gemma recently confessed why she hadn’t married Gorka yet. In a heartfelt open letter penned for Father’s Day earlier this year, she addressed her deeply missed father David, who sadly passed away from a heart attack aged 52 when Gemma, now 40, was just 17.
As she commemorated the 24th Father’s Day without her dad, Gemma said that the thought of walking down the aisle without him feels unbearable.
She revealed: “I’m getting married, Dad! One day, anyway. I think one of the reasons we’ve not done it yet is because of you. We’ve come close many times, but something stops me. I’m now the last Atkinson in the family line and if I give up my name, there’s no more of us.
“I don’t want to lose that remaining tie to you. Not having you walk me down the aisle… maybe I’ll just stay engaged for a bit longer.”
Discussing her future husband, Gemma expressed that she thinks her late father would have been a huge fan of him and their two lovely children.
“I think you’d be really happy with my choice of fiancé. You’d get such a kick out of Gorka being a professional dancer – you loved to dance – and I know you’d adore your grandchildren. Just like you adored me,” she added.
