TikTok star Denisse Reyes underwent liposuction at the San Pablo Medical Clinic in Mexico but died three days later in intensive care after a bad reaction to the intravenous medication, her family has said
A mum and TikTok star died after undergoing botched cosmetic surgery which left her in intensive care.
Influencer Denisse Reyes had undergone the private op for liposuction, but tragically died three days later after suffering cardiac arrest. The 27-year-old single mum had the fat removal surgery at the San Pablo Medical Clinic in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico, on January 26.
Her family have claimed the surgeon had not been authorised to perform the procedure. Denisse’s uncle, Ammao Rodriguez, said his niece reacted badly to intravenous medication given following the surgery.
Denisse’s heart then went into arrest due to the bad reaction, Ammao told the Daily Mail. She was then transferred to nearby Manzur Hospital where she was put into intensive care.
Ammao, an attorney, claimed a doctor at San Pablo ordered the transfer as they did not have the right resources to care for her. “He took her out of the hospital and dropped her off at the Mansur High Specialty Solutions Hospital, which is where he transferred her because they supposedly did not have an intensive care unit,” the lawyer said. The family say they are now taking legal action against the doctor who performed the procedure, and any others found responsible.
Tragically, Denisse’s condition worsened until January 29, when she passed away. Her sister, Massiel Reyes, posted a heartbreaking tribute, saying: “The day I said goodbye to you, I hugged you, I told you ‘See you in Tampico’ and I didn’t want to let you go.
“The situation in which my sister lost her life is private, and for that reason I ask for total respect for the pain of my mother and my nephew Matías. I can only thank all those who have spoken to me out of concern for her.”
Ammao added that the family wanted the doctor to “pay in some way for what he did”. The family are now also raising awareness of the dangers of cosmetic surgery in unregulated clinics.
The clinic and doctor accused have not issued any statement in response to the allegations. The doctor in question was accused in December of being responsible for the death of another woman who died after undergoing liposuction – claims which he denied.
