Glastonbury Festival will return next summer for another five days of music and it’s rumoured that Stevie Wonder could join the likes of Rod Stewart and Nile Rodgers on the line-up
An acclaimed international artist is rumoured to be in talks to perform at the next instalment of Glastonbury Festival after reportedly dropping out of the line-up this year.
There’s speculation this week that Stevie Wonder, 74, could headline the Pyramid Stage during the five-day festival on Worthy Farm next year. It comes following reports that the singer-songwriter almost did the festival over the summer.
It would mark the first time that the Grammy Award winner has performed at Glastonbury in over a decade. Stevie previously appeared as a headline act as part of the line-up for the festival’s 40th birthday celebrations back in 2010.
Teasing his potential return, a source told the Sun: “There is now the chance he could come back next summer to headline the Pyramid Stage. Talks are ongoing.” They also discussed reports that he was due to do this year’s festival.
The source said that organiser Emily Eavis, 45, had been “so close” to securing Stevie for the 2024 festival. They said his name was even on draft posters before the deal “fell apart” due to his schedule. The source said it was a “nightmare for everyone” involved and that musician Stevie was “gutted”.
It has already been announced that Rod Stewart, 79, will perform at Glastonbury next year. He’s set to return to the festival in 2025 after a more than 20 year absence to perform in the ‘legends’ slot on the Sunday afternoon.
Sharing the news, Rod said in a statement: “I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that I’ll be playing @glastofest 2025! After all these years, I’m proud and ready and more than able to take the stage again to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury in June [next year]. I’ll see you there!”
More recently, Nile Rodgers, 72, announced at the Rolling Stone Awards in the UK on Thursday that he will perform at the festival next year too. The Chic member picked up the Global Icon Award at the special occasion in London.
As reported by Metro, he ‘let slip the news’ at the event, revealing that he will play the Pyramid Stage directly after Rod’s set on June 29. Nile commented at the time: “We’re going to have a blast because we follow him directly.”
Nile is said to have laughed when it was pointed out that his apparent appearance hadn’t been announced by organisers yet. The outlet reports that he responded: “Am I not supposed to give that away? I always say too much.”
Rod is currently the only act officially announced by organisers as part of the line-up for next year’s Glastonbury. There’s been speculation over potential acts recently, with Eminem and Rihanna among the rumoured names.
