The Golden Globes are back with a bang – with nominees including Ariana Grande and Zendaya.
Nominees were revealed last month for the star-studded 82nd awards ceremony, which will be brought to viewers on CBS and streamed live on Paramount+ from 8 p.m. Eastern on Sunday (1am – 4am UK time Monday. This year, actress Aubrey Plaza is scheduled to present at the ceremony.
However, in recent hours, Aubrey has suffered the ultimate heartache after the death of her husband Jeff Baena. The Dirty Grandpa actress, 40, is set to appear at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night. She will be joined by co-presenters including Salma Hayek, Anya Taylor-Joy and Anthony Ramos. Currently, it is not known whether Aubrey has decided to step back from her presenting duties following Jeff’s death.

Who’s hosting?
Nikki Glaser will leading the hosting duties on Sunday. Known for her scorching humour, particularly at celebrity roasts, Glaser has recently taken jabs at Tom Brady, mocking his tangled romantic history and past support for cryptocurrency. Her HBO special “Someday You’ll Die” nabbed her an Emmy nomination, canvassing subjects from subsidising friends’ abortions to her most intense porn preferences.
Glaser names Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Ricky Gervais as her comic muses, stepping into the role after Jo Koy’s previous hosting stint was met with critique over his opening monologue and rapid-fire delivery. . Kicking off her roast early at Thursday’s red carpet rollout, she quipped about the Globes’ network, saying: “We’re on CBS, which has a show called ’60 Minutes,′ because that’s the remaining lifespan of many of its viewers.”
However, Glaser also assured that while she intends to edge close to the line, her goal isn’t to spoil the night: “I don’t want to ruin anyone’s evening — at home or in the audience.”
Who’s nominated this year?
Jacques Audiard’s bold musical “Emilia Pérez,” about a Mexican drug baron’s journey through gender affirming surgery, has snagged the lead with an impressive 10 nominations. It’s ahead of other hot favourites including the hit musical “Wicked,” the gripping papal drama “Conclave” and the postwar saga “The Brutalist.”
Meanwhile, “The Apprentice,” capturing Donald Trump’s earlier years, has earned accolades for Sebastian Stan’s portrayal of Trump and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn. On the TV front, “The Bear” is out in front with five nods. Denzel Washington secures his 11th nomination, remaining the most celebrated Black actor in Globes history.
Steve Martin, meanwhile, bags his fourth consecutive best television actor nod in a musical or comedy series for “Only Murders in the Building,” aiming for his first ever win at the Globes from nine nominations in total. There’s a fresh wave of contenders this year with 26 first-timers like Grande, Dakota Fanning, Glaser, Seth Meyers, Zoe Saldaña, and Pamela Anderson, the latter surprisingly noticed for “The Last Showgirl.” Despite past scandals and a shake-up that saw the Hollywood Foreign Press Association back away, the embattled Globes still hope to regain their former glory.

What are the Golden Globes?

As the year’s first televised show of its kind preceding others like the Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice Awards, they have the edge in setting an initial pace approximately two months before the Oscars, scheduled this time around for March 2.
Who is up for a double nomination?
Among those nominated, Stan, Kate Winslet and Selena Gomez proudly stand out as double nominees. Gomez specifically is up for the title of best female performance in both a supporting role for “Emilia Pérez” and in a television musical or comedy series for her work in “Only Murders in the Building.”
Winslet has been recognised for her stellar performances in “Lee” and “The Regime”, earning nominations for best female actor in a drama and best female actor in a limited anthology series for television. Stan, on the other hand, has been nominated for his roles in “The Apprentice” and “A Different Man,” securing nods for best male actor in a drama and best male actor in a musical or comedy.
Who will receive the Golden Globes’ Cecil B. DeMille award?
Viola Davis is set to receive the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award for her illustrious career, which includes powerful roles in films like Fences and The Woman King. She has also captivated TV audiences with her performance in the legal thriller drama “How to Get Away with Murder.”
The DeMille Award has previously been awarded to 69 of Hollywood’s greatest talents, including Tom Hanks, Jeff Bridges, Oprah Winfrey, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, Barbra Streisand and Sidney Poitier.
Who is the Carol Burnett award honouree?
The Golden Globes are also honouring former “Cheers” star Ted Danson with the Carol Burnett Award. Danson, a three-time Globes winner, has been a mainstay on TV since his breakout role as Boston bartender Sam Malone on NBC’s comedy “Cheers”. His other credits include “The Good Place,” “Mr. Mayor,” “Fargo,” “CSI” and “CSI: Cyber,” “Damages” and “Becker.”
He currently stars in Netflix’s “A Man on the Inside,” which earned him his first nomination since 2008 and 13th overall. The Carol Burnett Award was inaugurated in 2019 and acknowledges individuals who have “made outstanding contributions to television on or off screen.”
Previous honourees comprise Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy, and Ellen DeGeneres, with Burnett receiving the inaugural accolade herself. Ted Danson and Viola Davis are set to be commended this Friday at a special gala dinner hosted at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in what marks a first for the Golden Globes – a dedicated ceremony for these prestigious awards.
What will the A-listers eat once inside the Globes?
The event, often hailed as the “party of the year,” sees the return of the celebrated Nobu Restaurants group. Chef Nobu Matsuhisa is back at the helm, presenting an array of signature dishes including The Gold Standard Roll — an indulgent sushi creation with king crab internally adorned, salmon on top, finished with gold flakes and caviar, served with yuzu sauce aside, fetching a price of $77 within his restaurants.
Among Matsuhisa’s culinary offerings are seaweed tacos, yellowtail jalapenos, sashimi salad, black cod, and a trio of sushi selections featuring tuna, white fish, and salmon. “This is kind of like harmony with the caviars and, jalapenos,” remarked Matsuhisa, bringing his renowned Japanese cuisine once again to the glitzy proceedings following last year’s service.
