Tiger Woods has been plagued by injury in recent years and fans are calling for the PGA Tour to allow the 15-time major champion to use a cart in events on the circuit
Golf fans are urging the PGA Tour to let Tiger Woods compete in tournaments using a golf cart, in the hopes of extending his playing career.
Woods has announced himself as arguably the greatest golfer of all time during his remarkable career, racking up a record-equalling 82 PGA Tour victories and 15 major championships. He has however been forced to move to a part-time schedule in recent years due to problems with injury.
In 2024, Woods participated in only five PGA Tour events and one outside of the four major championships, where he had to withdraw during the second round of the Genesis Invitational due to illness.
He also completed 72 holes just once, after making his only cut of the year at the Masters in April. The main issue over the past three years has been his right leg, following a severe car accident on the outskirts of Los Angeles in February 2021.
Despite fears that Woods would never play competitive golf again, he made a heroic comeback at the Masters in 2022. It is clear that Woods is in discomfort when walking on the golf course, but as he turned 49 this week, things might soon get a bit easier.
When he turns 50, Woods will be eligible to compete on the PGA Tour Champions, a senior circuit that allows players to use a cart during play. This is a benefit not currently extended to regular PGA Tour events, which could impact Woods as the years go by.
However, fans are hoping for a rule change for the sake of the golfing great. One fan took to social media, tweeting: “The guy is a legend to the sport, completely changed the game and nobody will truly understand how much he grew the game before “growing the game” became a phrase for golf.”

“Let the man have a cart, it would help him big time, too. We need him on Sunday fighting for the lead one last time.” Another fan chimed in with: “I’d let him have a golf buggy now. Tiger has always pushed the boundaries in golf. Let him be the first and others will follow.”
The support for Woods did not stop there, as another tweet read: “The PGA Tour and majors should let him use a cart now.” While Woods has never officially confirmed if he’ll transition to the Champions Tour, golfing legend Jack Nicklaus believes he will make the move eventually.
Jack Nicklaus expressed his thoughts on Tiger Woods’ future in golf, stating: “I think Tiger will play the senior tour,” Nicklaus told the Golf Channel earlier this year. “He’ll be able to get in a cart, and he’ll absolutely kill everybody. He’s a talented guy, a great worker, got a great work ethic.
“Loves to play golf. I know he’s concentrating on his son Charlie a lot right now, rightfully so. I think the father-son relationship is terrific, and I’m happy for Tiger with that. “.
