Lulworth Cove, a stunning and historic site in the West Country that dates back millions of years, is definitely worth a visit. This World Heritage Site is so renowned that it attracts visitors from across the globe. Located on the Dorset coast, it’s an ideal day trip destination for people living in the south of England and a great holiday spot for people further afield.

Upon arrival, you’ll be moved by this ancient site, which draws geologists worldwide to study its well-preserved ancient stones and monuments. But it’s not just for academics – it’s also a perfect spot for a seaside day out, with inviting waters for swimming.

The sight of the sea shimmering against the rocks of this ancient, atmospheric circular cove is simply mesmerising. While many prefer to bring a picnic, there are plenty of charming cafes and shops at Lulworth Cove for those who’d rather eat out.

It’s quite accessible by car, and people from as far as Bath make the trip just for a swim before heading home. There’s ample parking at the top of a gently sloping road leading down to the beach, lined with appealing shops, pubs and ice cream stalls.

A visitor centre next to the car park offers fascinating displays on how the area has changed throughout recent geological periods.

Down on the beach, you can stroll around the cove and explore the rock pools revealed at low tide. On a sunny day, the beach’s bright white pebbles and turquoise water give it a Mediterranean vibe. Lulworth Cove is still a hub for working fishermen, reports Somerset Live.

The cove’s natural shape provides excellent shelter for the small fishing boats moored here. If you’ve got a small inflatable boat or a kayak, you’ll find the Cove generally very safe.

The beach also welcomes dogs all year round, making it a perfect spot for a family day out.
