New Look’s Faux Suede Trench is firmly on our fashion team’s autumn radar thanks to its chic fit and on-trend design

With September well underway, it’s that time of year that fashion desks are awash with newness. Suede and faux suede clothing is very much an early autumn trend, carrying through from winter last year.

It can be seen on everything from tote bags to blazers, and we’ve spotted that affordable fashion retailer New Look has added an on-trend faux suede twist to an autumn staple; the classic trench coat.

The New Look Faux Suede Belted Trench Coat comes in two rich brown shades; a staple beige and an ultra chic chocolate hue which looks set to become one of the colours of the season. One shopper described the coat as ‘gorgeous’ and raved about its quality hailing it ‘well made’ despite the reasonable £45 price tag.

Available in UK sizes 6-22, the jacket features a classic collared neckline and falls to a chic midi length. Meanwhile its belted waist gives shoppers the option to wear it loose and share a peek of their outfit underneath or style it done up for a cosier feel.

The trench coat is popular during the transitional months thanks to its lightweight material and easy to layer design. The addition of a faux suede finish puts a new season twist on a classic, meaning it would team easily with cowboy boots, jeans, and a ruffle blouse for a romantic boho look.

The New Look trench coat is super versatile however, adding texture and interest to basic jeans and a t-shirt, or lending an elegant touch to an office outfit. The double breasted button feature and side slip pockets give it an elevated look that’s perfect for dressing up all manner of items already in many people’s wardrobes.

Despite the on-trend faux suede material, our fashion team love that this jacket won’t date thanks to the trench design that comes back around year after year. One reviewer suggests that shoppers should stick with their usual selection, stating it “fits true to size.”

For a more luxe look, or for those who plan to team the coat with knitwear underneath, shoppers could also size up as the jacket’s relaxed yet flattering style also works well with a looser fit.

Other trench coats that have impressed our fashion team this season include H&M’s Twill Trench Coat for £40. One shopper said: “Gorgeous trench. Love this. I ordered a small and I’m a size 10. It’s the perfect oversized fit. I’m 5ft 3 so is longer on me but it’s still lovely.”

Another high street option is the ASOS Design Longline Trench Coat in mushroom which retails for £65. Featuring a notch collar, tie waist, and a longline cut, it’s a great staple to add to any new season wardrobe. Thanks to its versatility, we reckon for many fashion lovers it’ll give a great cost-per-wear despite the slightly higher price tag.

Back to New Look’s Faux Suede Belted Trench Coat, and the item currently has no negative reviews on the high street retailer’s website. One drawback I personally find with trench coats is that depending on height and personal preference, they can sometimes fall at an awkward point on the leg.

Therefore, a style that suits one customer may not be loved by another, so finding the right fit can be trial and error. Despite this, the effortlessly chic New Look trench boasts a super flattering silhouette, but it may work better for taller shoppers as a reviewer who listed their height as 5’8 noted it ‘looks amazing.’

Unlike real suede, New Look’s faux option is low maintenance and easy to care for, meaning it can be bunged in the washing machine rather than hand washed. Real suede shouldn’t be exposed to the rain or elements where possible, so we love that this stylish alternative is a great wearable everyday buy.
