Greek island that’s 24C in October but without the Santorini crowds

By staff9 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

For those looking to escape the gloomy autumnal weather, travel experts have shared one laid back hidden gem in Greece – where the warm weather continues through October

As autumn approaches, with the cold weather and darker evenings in full swing, many people will be looking to escape the gloomy weather for some more sun.

One Greek island is a popular choice, and a hidden gem for many, that offers warm weather in October, with clear seas and picturesque scenery.

Travel experts from Ski Vertigo have shed light on the quiet spot of Milos, the perfect escape, and also somewhere less crowded than the more popular Green destinations such as Santorini and it’s just north of the Sea of Crete

Known as the “Island of Colours,” Milos boasts impressive volcanic landscapes, turquoise waters and traditional villages that remain calm even in October. Known as a laid-back charm, it’s known for the Venus de Milo statue and Sarakiniko beach

Travellers often think of Santorini first, but Milos delivers the same beauty with much fewer people,” said a Ski Vertigo spokesperson. “With daytime temperatures around 24°C and pleasant sea conditions, October is the perfect time to explore its beaches and villages at a relaxed pace.”

Boasting an enchanting blend of natural wonders and cultural heritage, the island also has over 70 beaches, with white volcanic rock and bright blue seas, while others offer adventure seekers a fun descent by rope ladder, and another that’s more of a seculuded and quieter beach.

The experts also note seaside villages like Klima and Mandrakia add charm with their brightly painted boathouses. The capital, Plaka, is a hilltop town of narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed homes, offering one of the best sunset views in the Aegean.

While it’s also great for foodies, with an abundance of tavernas serving grilled seafood, pitarakia (cheese pies), and honey-soaked desserts, enjoyed alongside a glass of local wine – all a nod to the rich history of the island.

Things to Do in Milos according to the experts:

  • Visit Sarakiniko, Tsigrado, and Fyriplaka beaches.
  • Take a boat trip to Kleftiko and Sykia caves.
  • Explore the Roman theatre, ancient catacombs, and Mining Museum.
  • Wander around Plaka’s old town and watch the sunset from the Venetian castle.
  • Visit the fishing villages of Klima and Mandrakia.
  • Sample local dishes and wines in seaside tavernas.

Milos has a small airport with regular flights from Athens, operated by SKY Express and Olympic Air. Ferries from Piraeus Port in Athens run several times daily, taking around 3 to 5 hours depending on the vessel.

There are also connections from nearby islands such as Santorini, Paros, and Naxos. Flights from London to Milos (via Athens) start from around £70–£90 one way.
