As autumn begins to set in and the days become shorter and cooler, the Greek island of Kos remains a sun-soaked sanctuary, providing the perfect autumn getaway.

Nestled in the Aegean Sea as part of the scenic Dodecanese islands, Kos is famed for its breathtaking beaches, agreeable climate, and rich historical legacy. In October, this enchanting island experiences average daily highs of 26°C, making it an ideal location for a late-season holiday.

With roughly eight hours of sunshine each day and gentle breezes averaging 4.1 mph, visitors can revel in comfortable, pleasant weather. Although October does see a slight rise in rainfall, averaging 55mm for the month, it remains predominantly dry, especially at the start of the month, reports the Express.

As the month advances, cloud cover gradually increases, but early October still provides the best opportunity for uninterrupted sunshine and perfect beach conditions.

Kos is not only renowned for its stunning beaches but also for its significant historical background. The island is famously recognised as the birthplace of Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician often regarded as the father of medicine.

This rich historical context adds an element of fascination to your visit, allowing you to explore ancient ruins and historical sites whilst appreciating the island’s natural beauty.

The island’s coastline boasts a range of stunning beaches, from secluded coves to bustling sandy expanses.

Whether you’re a fan of sunbathing on golden sands or fancy a dip in the crystal-clear waters, Kos has a beach for every taste. Plus, the balmy October temperatures mean the sea is still warm enough for swimming and water sports.

Visiting Kos in October offers a tranquil alternative to the bustling summer months. The island isn’t as packed, giving you a more laid-back experience at popular spots and beaches.

It’s an ideal time to discover the island’s quaint towns, like Kos Town with its lively markets, or head into the scenic countryside for some hiking and sightseeing.

But it’s not all about the beach in Kos, there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy.

You can explore ancient ruins, including the Asklepion, a sanctuary dedicated to healing and medicine, or visit the remains of medieval castles.

And let’s not forget the island’s rich cultural heritage, which is perfectly paired with its fantastic local cuisine, where you can tuck into fresh seafood and traditional Greek dishes.
