Greggs has announced the return of the fan favourite after customers begged for it to return.
The vegan steak bake is back in stores and it has a new name. Say hello (again) to the vegan lattice (steak-free). The popular bake has been discontinued twice before – once in 2021, then again in 2024 – much to the disappointment of customers.
Writing to Greggs on social media, one person previously wrote: “Every day I mourn the Greggs vegan steak bake.” Another said: “Still missing the vegan steak bake from Greggs”
Greggs says the vegan lattice has “the same great quality, great tasting puff pastry” just with a new name, and is priced at £2.10.
If you’ve never tried one before, it is made of Greggs’ signature golden puff pastry with Quorn mycoprotein pieces and diced onions, along with vegan-friendly rich and savoury gravy.
Greggs fans have been delighted by the news of its return, with one person saying: “BLESS U FOR BRINGING BACK THE VEGAN STEAK BAKE.”
It comes after Greggs and KFC teamed up to create the “culinary crossover of the century” in the form of a Greggs sausage roll drenched in KFC gravy.
The foodie collaboration consisted of a sharing bucket containing six Greggs sausage rolls and a large tub of KFC gravy. It was priced at £10.
But sadly, the iconic duo was only was available for a limited time as part of a three-day tour which took place in London on August 7, then Manchester on August 8 and Newcastle on August 9. It also appeared on Uber Eats on August 15 and August 16.
KFC brand manager Phoebe Syms said: “At KFC, we bleed gravy. We go to obsessive lengths for our liquid gold, and so do our fans.
“In fact, it was them who inspired this once-in-a-lifetime event, calling for us to partner with Greggs and unite our iconic gravy with their iconic sausage rolls.
Fiona Mills, brand communications lead at Greggs, said: “With 96 layers of light puff pastry, and perfectly baked to give that satisfying golden crisp and flaky goodness, we’ve always known our sausage rolls are a true British icon. And why not pair one icon with another?“
Greggs recently revealed a slump in profits as it was knocked by hot weather and shoppers spending less cash. Its pre-tax profits fell by 14.3% to £63.5 million for the half-year to June 28, compared with a year earlier.
It said the first half of 2025 was impacted by “challenging market footfall, more weather disruption than in 2024” and increased costs.
