WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: Mysterious rotten remains found in a woodland after screams were heard have left locals shuddering, with some fearing they’d discovered the body of a werewolf
Mysterious remains that reportedly resemble a werewolf have left locals petrified. After hearing eerie screams in the dead of the night, a group of terrified individuals headed out at dawn to investigate, searching a wooded area for the source of the noise. It was then that they made a horrifying discovery.
There, on the ground, were the remains of a bizarre beast, around the same size as a sheep, with strange fur and teeth. Most intriguingly of all, the animal appeared to have hands just like a human, but with claws where its fingers should have been.
A number of locals believe the unusual corpse to be a nagual, which, in Mesoamerican mythology, are humans with the ability to shapeshift into a frightening beast similar to a werewolf.

The wolfish creature was recovered from the rural area of El Túnel in the municipality of Ixhuatlán del Sureste, located southeast of the Mexican capital, Mexico City. According to one local report: “When the locals went to see it, they found an animal the size of a lamb. With a rare jaw fur, with hands resembling a human, but instead of fingers it has claws. Locals say it’s a nachual.”
Others have theorised that the wolfish creature could perhaps be a Chupacabra, a formidable vampiric creature that drains the blood of livestock, as reported by NeedToKnow.
Not everyone is too sure, however, putting forward more ordinary explanations. One person argued: “No, that’s an old bear.” Another commented: “It’s an opossum.” A third person joked: “It’s my mother-in-law, she was missing for three days.”
A fourth added: “The animal is already well decomposed, and they claim they heard it screaming the night before?” Authorities removed the rotting carcass after being called to the scenes. At the time of writing, officials haven’t yet offered an explanation as to what exactly the animal could be, leaving the mystery open to wild speculation.
According to Mexicolore, ancient Mexicans believed each person had a companion animal to share their soul with, giving them an intimate connection to nature. Under this belief system, those with great power could have several nahual forms, with the human having the ability to physically transform into their spirit-self.
As per The University Of Alberta: “This is a traditional story about a creature called a nagual, a malevolent being that has characteristics of both humans and animals. Most commonly, the nagual was said to take the form of a jaguar (tigre ‘tiger’ in the local Spanish), and in Totonac the word for nagual is the word for ‘jaguar’ misín. The belief in naguales is still strong in many Totonac communities, and people say that they are really human sorcerers that have learned to take on animal form.”
