A groom-to-be was tragically killed on his stag do when he was swept away by waves just weeks before his wedding. Stefanos Kemos, 30, drowned at sea after he’d been celebrating with friends. But pals watched on in horror as he was swept away by waves in dreadful weather conditions on Sunday (May 25).

Kemos was due to get married on June 17, just weeks away. The Coast Guard and emergency services, including the fire brigade, managed to reach Stefanos from Kathisma Beach, on the island of Lefkada, Greece, and transfer his body to an ambulance.

He was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved and was confirmed dead shortly after arriving, as reported by NeedToKnow. Stefanos, of Trikala, north east of Athens, Greece, had travelled to Lefkada, west of the capital to celebrate his stag do.

His fiancé was reportedly on the same island for her hen do. Stefanos was the son of a well-known family as his father was a businessman who owned a car dealership together with his brother. Last month, a British groom-to-be died on a Benidorm stag do in front of his father and friends.

The 29-year-old father-of-one from Halifax was pronounced dead following the incident at the Funky Flamingo bar on March 22. According to the manager of the Benidorm bar, the man fell backwards off a bar stool and hit his head on the ground.

After he became unconscious, the manager and staff in the bar attempted CPR for around 15 minutes, before an ambulance arrived. Medics then gave him a shot of adrenaline and attempted further resuscitation, but he could not be saved.

In a statement to local media, the National Police said: “We can confirm that a man suffered some type of medical problem and died at the scene.

“He was treated by those present at the premises and then by the paramedics who responded to the call. The medical causes of the death are unknown.”

The man’s father and friends, who were with him at the bar, were said to have been left in tears. Bar manager Gaston Luciano told the MailOnline: “They gave him a shot of adrenaline and connected him to a machine, they did everything they could, it was so sad.

“His friends were in shock for the first minute or so and then it hit them what was happening, they were emotional and crying.”

One eyewitness described seeing “several police cars” and two ambulances outside the bar, while another described seeing a large amount of blood running from his head.

Photographs from the scene showed a large emergency services presence.

The man was known to have suffered a heart attack several years earlier.
