Halfords urges shoppers to return popular children’s item amid ‘risk of injuries’

Anyone who thinks their product is affected by this recall should stop using it straight away and return it to Halfords

Halfords has urgently recalled a popular children’s item amid pressing safety concerns. The UK retailer, known for its motoring and cycling products, is pulling two specific batches of its ‘Essentials Nyala R129 Car Seats’ due to fears they may pose a ‘risk of injuries’.

The Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards has also confirmed the recall, which concerns only children’s seats with batch codes of 211X and 223X. Customers can find these codes on the underside of the Essentials booster chair, which has been described as ‘black’ and ‘forward-facing’ with a ‘washable cover and five-point harness system’.

A message on the Government’s website reads: “The affected batches present a risk of injuries as under extreme temperature conditions, the plastic buckle may become deformed. This could compromise the performance of the buckle in the event of an accident.

“The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.” The Nyala R129 chair affected by the recall was produced between March 2023 and May 2023 and will also display one of two barcodes. These include:

  • 5057901819229
  • 5057901828382

Anyone who believes they have a product affected by this recall should stop using it immediately and return it to Halfords. Here, shoppers will be issued a full refund, with no receipt required.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards continues: “Should you have any queries, or require further information, please see: https://washford.a.bigcontent.io/v1/static/Recall-Notice-Nyala-Child-Seat or contact the Halfords Customer Services team on 0330 135 9779.”

Meanwhile, a message from Halfords reads: “Routine safety testing has identified that under extreme temperature conditions, the buckle on some seats may become deformed. This could compromise the performance of the buckle in the event of an accident.”

It later adds: “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. However, the safety and confidence of our customers combined with quality of our products is at the heart of everything we do.”
