Prince Harry is reportedly “not interested” in returning to royal duties after stepping down in 2020 – and we asked Mirror readers if they would like to see the Sussexes back in the Firm fold
Prince William allegedly “doesn’t see a future” for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the Royal Family – and we asked Mirror readers if they think the Sussexes should return to the Firm.
It comes after the couple stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California to pursue their own projects, including working with Netflix. Speaking to the Express, a source explained that not much will change between the royal brothers when William ascends the throne.
They said: “William is already planning for when he becomes King, and he doesn’t see a future for the Sussexes in the Royal Family. The feeling is that allowing the Sussexes back into the fold is a bad move and they should be resigned to the fringes indefinitely.”
The pair were reunited at Lord Robert Fellowes memorial service in Norfolk last week, but reportedly stood “back to back” without exchanging a single word. However, sources have claimed that Harry has been in touch with the King to try to help repair their relationship, which prompted much speculation he was looking to return to the royal fold.
According to the Mail on Sunday, the Duke had turned away from his “Hollywood publicists” and was texting former confidantes “from his old life” on how to plan a return from the US. Recent reports have suggested that the younger prince is feeling “more isolated” after spending the much-anticipated Colombia trip in Meghan’s shadow.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex journeyed to the South American nation in mid-August in what was dubbed a ‘faux’ royal tour. Matt Wilkinson, The Sun’s royal editor, told True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat: “The whole thing was created about Meghan.
“And when you saw the footage that was filmed by people at the dinners or people who were there that weren’t part of this press pool, they showed a slightly different picture. Harry looked a little bit grumpy. May I use his vocabulary – he perhaps looked a bit like ‘the spare!'”
However, sources have told the Daily Telegraph that Harry has “no interest” in returning to the royal fold and is focused solely on his future in California. He is also reported to have an “amazing” set of friends and several projects on the horizon.
We asked Mirror readers if they would like to see Harry and Meghan return to the Firm, and a whopping 93 percent said ‘No’. Around 14,220 people voted in our poll and a hefty 13,162 were against the Sussexes’ potential move.
Voicing their thoughts in the comments section, one user penned: “Harry and Meghan have said too much for the rift to be healed and MM just wants all the limelight and doesn’t like being down in the pecking order. Let them stay in USA.”
Another echoed: “If Prince Harry and MM were allowed back they would cause more trouble for the Royal family, MM does not like to be told NO as the late Queen Elizabeth found.”
While a third added: “The King better understand this is a lot more than just a ‘family feud’. Harry deserted his country, people and duties – the PEOPLE don’t want him back in any capacity. William, I think, understand this. Hope the King isn’t governed by his emotions.”
“The majority of the people don’t want them to return. They chose to leave the Royal Family. They did an interview with Oprah, and brought out that book. He made his bed and let him lie in it. We don’t want him back,” expressed another.
Meanwhile, others are convinced that Harry has no intentions of returning to royal life, as one reader wrote: “He doesn’t want to come back. He’s made that clear. Harry is still far more popular. Harry is charismatic and likeable. Many don’t want the royals anymore, Windsor knows having Harry back would change that opinion.”
Only seven percent said they would like the Sussexes to return to the fold. You can still vote in the poll HERE to have your say on the topic. Would you like to see Harry and Meghan return to royal life? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
