Harry Kane has ‘secret exit clause’ in Bayern Munich contract for Premier League return

By staff23 September 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Harry Kane still has the best part of two years remaining on his Bayern Munich contract, where he and his family are happy, but the idea of a return to the Premier League lingers

Harry Kane could return to the Premier League next summer due to a secret clause in his contract, according to reports in Germany. Kane has been at Bayern Munich for two years and remains under contract until June 2027, although his future at the club has now been questioned.

The 32-year-old has 98 goals in 103 games for Bayern, having joined from Tottenham for a fee of £86.4million in the summer of 2023. He has helped the club win the Bundesliga and the German Super Cup and has started the 2025/26 season in excellent form, netting 13 times in seven games already.

Kane has frequently spoken about how much he is enjoying his time in Bavaria, where his wife Kate and their four children have settled. But the suggestion of a return to the Premier League has never been far away, especially with the England captain being only 47 goals shy of Alan Shearer’s all-time goal tally of 260 in the competition.

There is a suggestion that Bayern know Kane won’t stay beyond his current contract, with unfinished business in England, where he famously never won any silverware. And, according to German newspaper Bild, there is a mechanism in his paperwork at Bayern which could make it happen.

The report states that Kane can leave Bayern for £56.7m next summer, but only if he informs the club before the end of the January transfer window. Making such a pre-emptive decision may be difficult for Kane, who is once again gunning for trophies with Vincent Kompany’s side.

Kane certainly doesn’t seem to be agitating for a move, given his prolific form for Bayern and the happiness of his family. “Life is good. It’s been a great experience so far, I’m enjoying my time here, the family are enjoying it so yes, I’m looking forward to the season ahead,” he said over the summer.

Speaking at the end of last season, he added: “My family are totally here. You know, I think in football, in life, you never know what’s around the corner. But for me, I’m really happy here in Munich. My family has settled down. My kids are loving it here in school, so yes, this is my life here for the foreseeable future.

“I love the manager. I love the team here. I think we’re only just getting started, to watch the movie, a really successful period for this club, and I want to be a big part of that. So who knows how many years, but for sure, I want to be here for a while.”

With the goals continuing to pour in, Bayern are likely to try and tempt Kane to sign a contract extension which would end any speculation over his future.
