Harry Kane transfer claims emphatically answered with strong Bayern Munich declaration

Harry Kane is celebrating the first major trophy of his career as Bayern Munich celebrate winning the Bundesliga – but it’s led to suggestions he could leave the German giants, suggestions Jurgen Klinsmann emphatically rejects

Jurgen Klinsmann believes Harry Kane still has unfinished business at Bayern Munich.

The England captain finally got his hands on the first major trophy of his career as Bayern lifted the Bundesliga title on Saturday night – and there have been suggestions he could now be tempted by a return to the Premier League.

But Klinsmann, the German legend who himself once quit Tottenham after being offered the chance to win medals with the Bavarian giants, feels 31-year-old Kane could emulate the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski by continuing to score goals at the highest level for years to come. And he reckons the prospect of spearheading Bayern’s bid to lift the Champions League under coach Vincent Kompany will keep him fully motivated.

Klinsmann, the World Cup winner who became a Premier League pioneer when he moved to White Hart Lane for a season 30 years ago, said: “I can’t imagine Harry leaving Bayern this summer.

“In fact, I think he’s got five or six years left at the top – and I expect to see him with Bayern for the next two or three seasons at least.

“Harry takes care of himself physically but he has always been someone who relies on the speed of his brain rather than the speed of his legs. That’s why I think he can do what we have seen Messi, Ronaldo and Lewandowski do, by playing to an age when most players are starting to decline.

“Winning his first trophy is an achievement Harry will never forget – but he will believe there’s a lot more left to achieve. The next challenge for Vincent Kompany will be to retain the title – and also win the Champions League. Harry Kane knows that if he is a part of that then he will become a Bayern Munich legend.”

Kane moved to Germany two years ago after deciding he could not realise his ambitions with Spurs. But despite winning the Bundesliga’s Golden Boot by scoring 36 goals, Bayern’s run of winning 11 successive titles was ended by a Bayer Leverkusen team that finished the campaign unbeaten under Xabi Alonso.

There were also big disappointments in the Champions League, German Cup and German Super Cup.

Bayern’s hopes of European success this season were ended by Inter Milan, but Kane has continued to score goals heavily and is closing in on another Golden Boot as Kompany’s men have taken the title.

Klinsmann said: “There was a lot of disappointment at Bayern about losing to Inter in the Champions League because the final will be played in Munich. So Harry has more boxes to tick. Players like Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala have all signed new contracts and I am sure Kompany will have some new players next season. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?

“Harry has won so many individual awards, Golden Boots from the World Cup, the Euros and the Bundesliga. The individual accolades are very nice, but football is a team game – and the most important prizes for any player are the ones they win as part of a team. Winning titles and trophies is what you dream about from the moment you start playing the game as a young boy.

“It’s clear to see that Harry is happy in Germany. He is producing goals and performances that tell me he is in a good place.

“The people love him. They don’t just love him as a footballer, they see him as a gentleman who represents Bayern Munich in the right way.

“It was a huge moment when they signed the England captain. They didn’t pay 100million euros just bring him in for two years and one Bundesliga title.”
