Heart-stopping moment cop saves BMW driver’s life after 160mph motorway chase

By staff16 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Patrick Connors, 45, sent cops on a horror 160mph police chase as he zoomed down a motorway in his powerful BMW before jumping out and attempting to run across the motorway

This is the shocking moment a brave cop saved a BMW driver’s life after a terrifying 160mph police chase.

Heart-stopping police dashcam footage captured wanted man Patrick Connors, 45, hurtling down the M1 and M69 in a powerful BMW 5 Series. Connors hit dizzying speeds of 160mph as he shot past cars – prompting a police officer to say: “That was scary as ****.”

Cops started following the driver, who was wanted for failing to appear in court for fraud charges, which led to a high-speed chase on February 19 this year. The wanted man ran a red light and sped down the hard shoulder of a motorway at 130mph during the 20 minute pursuit. It comes after video of the moment a family attacks a woman complaining over a child kicking chair on flight emerged.

While being chased by officers, he twice attempted to “brake check” the cop car as he swerved across the middle and fast lane. Connors was finally caught when he suddenly stopped the car in the fast lane and leapt out to run towards the central barrier.

Footage shows an officer begging Connors not to attempt to run across the opposite motorway. The cop shouts: “Don’t go across the carriageway, you’ll get killed. Don’t do it buddy. Don’t do it.”

The officer then grabbed Connor’s T-shirt and wrestled him to the ground before slapping handcuffs on the man. Connors, of Queensferry, Wales, admitted dangerous driving and failing to stop.

He also admitting acquiring criminal property, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. The court heard he gave false details to police and previously used 17 aliases. Connors was jailed this week at Mold Crown Court for three years and banned from driving for five years.

This comes after one of Britain’s worst driver was jailed after leading police on a chase zooming down road at double the speed limit. Robert Peter Holliday, who had already been banned from driving six times, spotted by a PC motoring through Staindrop, County Durham, with active disqualifications in place, on August 4.

Holliday’s Ford Transit van was pursued through the village where the 37-year-old sped up to 70mph in the 30mph zone before he gave up and pulled over. He was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified and having no insurance.

He was remanded in custody and put before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday August 5 where he pleaded guilty to both offences. The driver was sentenced to 18 weeks behind bars and has also added another driving ban to his record with a further 33-month disqualification and more than £200 in costs on top.

Holliday had previously told police he gained an “adrenaline rush” from forcing officers to pursue him, often at high speed. He had also been jailed for 20 months in August 2015 after another police chase – carried out while he was out on licence from a previous prison sentence for dangerous driving.
