Your risk of cancer and a stroke will lower if you cut these out
A heart surgeon has said that there are four things that he avoids to have a healthier life – and body. Taking to TikTok, Dr Jeremy London, MD, stressed that some of our lifestyle choices can increase our risk of cancer, strokes and more – and we may not know it.
Talking about the “four things I absolutely avoid as cardiac surgeon”, he says that number one “smoking, no question.” Whilst we all know it’s bad for us, some people don’t know the risks that aren’t just cancer.
He says: “[It’s] The single worst thing you can do for your entire body. It destroys your lungs causes lung cancer, high cardiovascular risks, heart attack and strokes. Don’t smoke.”
In his second warning, he says he “hates to break it to you”, but alcohol must be avoided. Whilst he advocates for doing what you want with your body, he notes that for him, it’s not worth the risk.
He notes: “It’s toxic to every cell in your body. Your body, your rules you, just decide for yourself. For me personally, removing alcohol from my life is probably one of the most transformative decisions I’ve made as an adult. All the cool kids are doing it, give it a shot.”
In his third suggestion, he says to remove soft drinks from your diet – or at least drink them less. “Soft drinks, liquid death. Just don’t drink them. Done”, he says.
He isn’t the only one to ask people to swap out these drinks. Just this week, Mirror Online reports that one neurologist noted if you like a glass of soda, try “swapping just one sugary drink or part of a sugary drink a day for water or green tea.”
The expert explains cutting down just a little bit will help your future health saying: “Drinks like soda or energy drinks are packed with sugar and we all know that’s not good for your body.
“Ideally we don’t drink any of that. Even cutting some of that out of your daily life can make a big difference in the long run.”
In the heart surgeon’s fourth and final piece of advice, he says: “Avoid bread and pastas, avoid the refined flours and weeds. 80% of weight control is diet. 20% is exercise. I guarantee you, you can eat any exercise that you do, so be conscious about what you’re putting in your mouth.”
