As the UK weather takes a chilly turn, households are bracing for higher heating costs. Today, on October 1, Ofgem announced a 2% increase in its energy price cap.

This rise will push the average household energy bill to approximately £1,755 a year for direct debit customers, up from the previous annual cost of £1,720.

With Brits across the nation seeking to reduce their heating usage, attention is shifting towards more affordable home heating solutions. Argos is offering a plug-in heater that’s ‘significantly cheaper to run than central heating’ and costs just 13p an hour.

Typically priced at £25, this gadget, which emits a comfortable level of heat, can be snagged for less than £10 thanks to a deal stack. By using the money-saving site TopCashback, shoppers can lower the price to £9.67.

This discount is available to first-time users of the site who receive a £ 15 credit when purchasing the Argos Bush fan heater through its links. This price applies to new TopCashback and new Argos customers. Those who are new to TopCashback but existing Argos members will pay slightly more, at £9.78.

All customers need to do is register via this link, search for Argos and buy the heater through the site. All funds will be returned to shoppers’ accounts within seven days.

The Bush MH-04W Fan Heater could be precisely what budget-minded households need this autumn and winter, offering a cheaper method to warm rooms without sending the thermostat bill soaring, reports Wales Online.

According to the energy calculator Sus-it, it costs just 13p per hour to operate based on its 0.5kW power consumption.

The device boasts a digital screen enabling users to choose their preferred temperature setting, from 1 through to 12, and is said to work effectively in rooms measuring up to 10 m2.

“Over cold winter working from home, one of these is considerably cheaper to run than central heating”, commented one buyer.

Comparable to products like the Russell Hobbs Ceramic Plug heater, now slashed to £19.97 on Amazon. This gadget also features a digital screen, making it simpler for users to program a timer and temperature level.

Looking at larger options, Dreo is best known for its effective electric heater. The Dreo brand gained recognition for its powerful ‘space heater’, whilst the Electric Heater – around £51.96 on Dreo’s website – represents a fresh model, delivering 1500W of power.

This means the Argos gadget generates significantly more warmth than the plug-in alternatives mentioned above and targets larger areas.

The customer who purchased this to ‘stay cosy in their office area’ awarded it five stars.

Another buyer remarked: “Great product, very useful if you need heat or a bit extra. Very good for personal heating and can warm up a good-sized room. For its size, it’s a very powerful heater with low noise.”

Another shopper bought it because ‘their boiler broke’ as they said: “I bought this back in the colder months when my boiler packed up, great little portable device.”

However, shoppers should exercise caution regarding where they position the device, as it needs adequate clearance around the unit.

As one customer explained: “I had to return this for a refund as safety features stipulate 50 cm of space on both sides of the heater. My socket in the utility area is only 18 cm from the corner and only 15 cm from a wooden door frame.”

For those with sufficient room, though, it’s proved to be a dependable gadget for efficient heating. “It works fine straight out of the box, easy to set a temperature and ample to keep the room warm rather than heating the whole house”, said another shopper.

How to snap up the Argos heater for under a tenner:

  • To claim the cashback offer, new members of TopCashback need to sign up here.
  • Search for Argos and click “Get Cashback Now”.
  • Shop and checkout as usual.
  • Cashback will then track and appear in your TopCashback account within seven working days of your purchase.
