The beautiful spot boasts so much to see and do – and it’s an affordable option for package holidays as well

A hidden gem nestled amidst breathtaking natural landscapes, Kalymnos, should be on your radar for any future holidays.

This picturesque Greek island, located near Kos, clinched the top spot for cheapest place in a survey that analysed over 4,500 package holidays across 15 European countries last year.

Consumer champion Which? conducted a comparison of prices during the first week of August to identify the best value package holiday deal. The stunning Greek island emerged as the location offering the cheapest package holidays in Europe, according to the findings.

Part of the Dodecanese Island group, this petite island is home to secluded beaches and crystal-clear waters, reports the Express.

Kalymnos is globally recognised as one of the premier rock-climbing destinations. The island caters to climbers of all abilities, from novices to seasoned professionals, with a diverse range of climbing routes.

Climbing spots such as Grande Grotta and Panorama provide awe-inspiring views of the Aegean Sea. Other tourist draws include museums, churches, and archaeological sites like the Castle of Chora and the Archaeological Museum of Kalymnos.

The destination offers holidaymakers plenty of activities including a choice of 15 pristine beaches such as Massouri Beach, Myrties Beach, and Kantouni Beach, known for their crystal-clear waters and breathtaking views.

Visitors can delve into the island’s sponge-fishing heritage at the Sponge Factory or get lost in the enchanting marine world at the Sea World Museum with its unique collection of shells, sponges, and corals. The island is also rich in culture with several museums including the Archaeological Museum, the Folklore Museum, and the Maritime Museum.

For those interested in historical sites, there’s the majestic Castle of Chryssocheria, the sacred Church of Christ, or the mysterious Kefala cave waiting to be explored.

Getting there is straightforward with direct flights from Athens to Kalymnos, while Brits also have the option to fly to Kos and then journey by ferry to the picturesque island.

Those who’ve discovered Kalymnos are often spellbound by its untouched beauty, leaving many mesmerised.

TripAdvisor users have been raving about the idyllic Kalymnos village, with one enthusiast writing: “Kalymnos village is a wonderful place, it’s located along a natural harbor, in a valley between hills.”

Another traveller said: “It’s the typical image for a dream place in the Aegean/Mediterranean Sea. If you really want to enjoy it, go and walk the narrow streets and make a stop at one of the many tavernas of the port.”

And a third raved: “Always a joy to come back here. One of the true authentic Dodecanese Greek islands in the East where you will find friendly people (go visit Stukas Taverna in Pothia! ) and you feel like you want to come back! Go!”
