High street favourite closing 23 more stores with list of locations revealed

By staff3 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The budget chain had 800 branches earlier this summer, but now expects this will reduce to around 650 to 700 stores through mixture of closures, as well as when leases expire

Poundland has closed dozens of stores in recent weeks due to a major restructure of its business, after the struggling retailer was sold for just £1 to an investment firm.

The budget high street chain had 800 branches earlier this summer, but now expects this will reduce to around 650 to 700 stores through mixture of closures, as well as when leases expire.

Poundland closures are continuing into the autumn, with 23 stores scheduled to shut and closing down sales with up to 40% off reportedly launched. Some of the locations included in the closures are Burnley, Leicester and Glasgow.

You can find a full list of store closures below. Poundland previously confirmed it would close 68 stores after being sold to investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1.

In a following update, Poundland revealed that 11 of these planned closures have been scrapped for now. It comes after the discount chain revealed it is rolling out a new simpler £1, £2, £3 pricing structure to its UK stores.

It estimates around 60% of grocery items will be at £1, while 20% will be at £2, and 20% at £3, under the new regime. Poundland has also updated its website so that shoppers can only browse products – you won’t be able to buy anything online.

Poundland has also closed its loyalty app, Poundland Perks, which allowed shoppers to earn points when they spend. If you have vouchers that you’ve yet to spend, you’ll still be able to use these up until January 15, 2026.

Poundland managing director Barry Williams said: “We’re determined to deliver a simpler, more focused Poundland that keeps its promise of amazing value to customers.

“We appreciate the support we’ve had from suppliers, landlords and other partners who’ve now all been fully briefed on our plans to get us back on track.

“While there is much work to do, I’m confident that a Poundland focused on the simple value our customers expect, has a bright future.”
