Hobbycraft has launched “everything must go” sales ahead of closing six stores this month.

The arts and crafts retailer is currently undergoing a major restructure of its business, which had already seen Hobbycraft shut 12 other stores. So far this month, Hobbycraft has already close its branch in Wigan on September 4.

Its stores in Maidenhead and Chichester will then shut permanently on September 18, followed by its Crayford branch on September 20, King’s Lynn on September 22, and finally its Stafford store on September 28.

These stores have launched “everything must go” sales to clear its remaining stock, with up to 70% off certain products. Hobbycraft is owned by private equity firm Modella Capital, which said the closures are necessary to secure the future of at least 99 stores and 1,800 jobs across the business.

Hobbycraft has 110 stores across the UK. Hobbycraft chief executive Alex Wilson said: “While it’s always tough to say goodbye to some of our stores – and this is always a last resort – we believe these changes will set us up for an even brighter future.

“We’re investing in our online business, exploring exciting new ways to reach customers such as Hobbycraft TV, and remain committed to inspiring creativity across the UK…

“Making these changes now is a necessary step to ensure we can keep our doors open to hobbyists and crafters up and down the country for years to come.”

It comes after Poundland saw its restructuring plan approved by the High Court last month, after the discount retailer was sold for £1 to investment firm Gordon Brothers, the former owner of Laura Ashley.

Poundland had warned it risked running out of money in days if the deal, which included the closure of 68 branches, was not given the green light. Poundland had around 800 stores before it was sold.

The company expects the latest closures, alongside leases expiring, will see its store estate eventually reduced to between 650 and 700. Poundland will also close its distribution centre at Darton, South Yorkshire and its national distribution centre at Bilston in the West Midlands in early 2026.
