London Fire Brigade says fifteen crews, including ones from Holloway and Euston, have dashed to the restaurant, above which is flats, on Seven Sisters Road this morning
Firefighters are this morning tackling a massive blaze at a takeaway restaurant and at flats above it.
Around 100 firefighters are in attendance at the fire on Thursday morning at a takeaway restaurant in Holloway, north London. The London Fire Brigade said the whole of the ground floor of the building on Seven Sisters Road was alight by 6am, but now half of the ground floor, as well as part of two flats on the first and second floors is still ablaze.
The building contains flats above the restaurant. Control officers took the first calls at 3.45am with crews from Holloway, Kentish Town, Islington, Euston and surrounding fire stations at the scene. Around 20 calls have been made to London Fire Brigade in connection with the blaze.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called at 03.51am today to reports of a fire on Seven Sisters Road.
‘We sent a number of resources to the scene including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team.
‘We treated five people at the scene and conveyed them to hospital.’Station Commander Mike Watts, who is at the scene, said: “There are road closures in place and we urge people to avoid the area, particularly as we head into rush hour, due to congestion in the area.
“The fire is producing a lot of smoke in the vicinity and local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed while we work to bring the fire under control.”
The cause of the fire is not known. Investigators will begin examining the site once the fire is brought under control. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
Holloway is in the London Borough of Islington. The stretch of road at which the fire has happened used to be home to a pub, but this closed in 2004 and has since been used as a gambling establishment. Several other shops and eateries are around the building.
