Home Bargains reduces ‘£11,000’ item to 69p and issues statement

Many people took to the comment section after noticing the ‘huge price drop’

08:53, 28 Oct 2025Updated 08:54, 28 Oct 2025

Home Bargains has issued a statement after a shopper noticed a seemingly huge price reduction on a small item in stores. The budget-friendly superstore is really living up to its ‘bargain’ name this week, as a festive product was seen with a massive ‘half price or less’ discount.

A user posted on the popular Facebook page Costoflivingcrisis Tips a picture of the price drop after stumbling across it in their local store. They said: “Star-shaped candle was £11,000, now 69p, an incredible deal by Home Bargains!”

In the picture, she holds up the star-shaped candle holder that comes in black and looks to be around the same size as the palm of your hand. The label that accompanies it on the shop shelf reads: “Save £10,999.31, compared to recomended retail price (RRP). 69p. RRP £11,000.”

Unsurprisingly, the comment section did not disappoint. Many waded in with their thoughts and took it as the perfect opportunity to crack some jokes about the price error. One person said: ” I bought two last week at £11k each. Fuming.”

Another said: “That must be the gold plated holders at that price.” A third put: “Absolutely love it deep discounting.” Someone else said: “Wow, I’m going to run down now to my home bargains.”

Another wrote: “That’s incredible savings.” One more joked: “And you know some poor marketing assistant got pulled into their boss’s office to explain themselves when an automated alert pointed out that stock was being sold at a 99.99483% markdown.”

It didn’t take long for Home Bargains to laugh at its own mistake. Last night (October 27), the store took to Facebook to poke fun at itself. Sharing the same image, the store’s official Facebook account told its 1.6 million followers in a statement: “When it comes to savings, we don’t mess about.”

The post has since received almost one thousand likes and plenty of comments. Many more shared their own jokes, with one writing: “I bought these last year, better add them on the home insurance as a valuable item.”

Another laughed: “Someone is working from home with a cat ‘helping’.” A third put: “Got 5 locked in my safe.” Another asked: “Is it ex Harrods stock?” One more said: “Quite literally a star buy.”

Someone else joked: “They were meant to be platinum and diamond-encrusted. There was a mistake at the factory and plain black painted metal got delivered. Bargain.” Another said: “I bought some last year , can I get a refund.”
