Home Bargains slashes £28 night oil for ‘deep, restful sleep’ to £2

Home Bargains is stocking a £2 sleep oil that ‘soothes’ and ‘replenishes’ skin overnight while helping to ‘induce better quality sleep.’ For a limited time, the Plantopia Rest & Sleep Night Oil 27ml’s price has plummeted from £28 to £1.99, offering shoppers over 90% off the original price.

Available on Home Bargains’ website, the facial oil is formulated with ashwagandha and sandalwood to improve sleep quality and revitalise skin. The product description says: “Drift into deep, restful sleep with Plantopia Rest & Sleep Night Oil, a featherlight blend of ashwagandha and sandalwood that soothes skin overnight, boosts elasticity, and leaves you glowing with renewed vitality by morning.”

It continues: “A deeply cocooning bedtime fragrance ritual to help induce better quality sleep, grounding and restoring mind, body and skin for enhanced wellbeing. This moisture replenishing nighttime facial oil restores the skin’s protective barrier, soothes irritation and supports overnight renewal, for next-day skin that is re-awakened, with vitality regained.

“Powered by adaptogenic ashwagandha and bakuchiol, this featherweight oil supports cell turnover, promotes elasticity, firmness, and texture, whilst helping to diminish the appearance and depth of fine lines and wrinkles.”

Explaining the potential benefits associated with sandalwood, Psychology Today says: “With a rich, woody, earthy scent, sandalwood has an ancient history of use for relaxation and anxiety relief.

“Scientific research indicates sandalwood can be effective in easing anxiety symptoms. Research has also shown sandalwood can have sedative effects, reducing wakefulness and increasing amounts of non-REM sleep.”

However, the publication adds: “Sandalwood has also been shown to increase wakefulness and alertness, even when it is also triggering physical relaxation. Everyone reacts to scents differently.

“Sandalwood may deliver sleep benefits for some people, while for others, it may promote wakeful, attentive relaxation. If that’s the case for you, sandalwood isn’t right for nighttime, but you can use it during the day to feel relaxed and alert.”

Elsewhere, explaining the potential benefits of ashwagandha, Healthline says: “Generally, many studies suggest that noticeable improvements in sleep quality and relaxation might happen after a few weeks of consistent use. However, some individuals might experience more immediate effects.

“If you’re taking ashwagandha primarily for sleep, it’s generally recommended to avoid taking it right before bedtime, as some people experience an energy boost after taking it.”

For anyone struggling with sleep, the NHS says insomnia usually gets better when you change your sleep habits. This might include going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, relaxing for at least one hour before bed, and making sure your bedroom is dark and quiet.

People might use curtains, blinds, earplugs or an eye mask to do this. However, if this does not work, a pharmacist or a GP can help. You should speak to your GP about any health concerns.
