Carpet stains are often incredibly difficult to treat but one cleaning expert has shared her DIY homemade solution which gets rid of tough stains like coffee and wine
Getting stains out of carpets can often be tricky but one cleaning expert has shared her simple homemade solution which works after just five minutes.
Liquids such as coffee and wine can penetrate deep into the fibres, as can certain foods, which makes it very hard to get rid of the resulting marks. Some stains remain even after the most vigorous scrubbing. Karrie Truman, a cleaning guru and the brains behind Happy Money Saver, has shared her cost effective and homemade solution which leaves carpets as good as new by tackling those stubborn stains.
The cleaning expert said: “Making your own homemade all-natural carpet cleaner has never been so easy. With our easy-to-make, inexpensive all-natural solution you won’t buy the commercial stuff anymore. It’s safe, effective, and uses ingredients you likely already have at home.” So, what does the homemade solution consist of? Well, quite helpfully it only requires two ingredients that will be found in the majority of households.
Hot water and vinegar make up the solution, meaning many of us can make the cleaning product ourselves without heading to the shops. Vinegar’s acidic nature helps when breaking down stains and freeing trapped grime, reports the Express. Vinegar is particularly adept at removing alkaline blemishes like pet urine, soap scum, or other residues that tend to accumulate in carpets. Vinegar also naturally neutralises odours and possesses antibacterial qualities, ensuring it eradicates musty smells and thoroughly cleans fabrics without merely disguising the stains.
Karrie said: “A versatile and natural cleaning agent, vinegar effectively cuts through dirt and odours, leaving surfaces sanitised due to its acidic properties. Hot water helps to dissolve grime and enhance the cleaning power of other ingredients, making it easier to lift stains from the carpet.” You can also add essential oils to the homemade mixture if you want to infuse the area with a fragrance, although this is not mandatory.
How to make the carpet cleaning solution
Simply combine half a gallon of vinegar with an equal part of hot water in a large container. Should you wish to infuse the area with fragrance, mix in five drops of essential oil and blend until it’s all well combined. Before you apply the solution to the carpet, give the area a good vacuum to remove any loose debris. It’s also recommended to test any homemade concoction in an inconspicuous spot on the carpet and wait for 24 hours to check for any adverse reactions. Simply apply the homemade carpet cleaner with the aid of a machine or by hand on any blemishes you wish to treat. The cleaning process only needs five minutes, but after treatment, allow a full day for the carpet to thoroughly dry. After this process, your carpet should look refreshed and free from stains once again.
