Homeowners keen to sell their properties have been warned that one glaring issue could be deterring potential buyers. Property expert Nima Ghasri from cash house buyers Good Move has highlighted five factors that could make your home less attractive, including an issue you might not even spot if you’ve resided in the property for a while.

Buyers often undertake extensive renovations or redecorations before moving in, but that doesn’t mean they’ll turn a blind eye to signs of neglect, warns Nima. The property expert points out that indications of poor maintenance can jeopardise your chances of selling, with key issues like peeling paintwork being a major deterrent.

Nima also notes that neglecting garden upkeep and tasks such as weeding could be off-putting for prospective homeowners.

Other buyer red flags include the scent of the property, with homeowners advised to steer clear of overpowering cleaning product smells and ensure the house is clean, freshened up with natural and less potent scents like fresh linen diffusers.

The property specialist emphasises the importance of allowing potential buyers to envision themselves living there, suggesting creating a pleasant yet neutral environment by removing personal items.

However, it’s crucial to strike a balance, as homes that appear too staged can also deter buyers, reports the Express.

Nima insists on the importance of modernising your home, warning that outdated properties could scare off potential buyers due to maintenance concerns and future complications.

Moreover, he points out sellers must be pragmatic about their property’s worth in the current climate, mindful of hidden costs such as legal fees, and patient with the time it may take to seal the deal.

Simultaneously, another pundit has divulged a handful of budget-friendly hacks guaranteed to up your house’s appeal.

Terry Fisher from Sold.co.uk advises employing discreet sensory stimuli and mind games, which can subtly affect viewers, often without them realising it.

“Selling a house is as much about emotion as logic,” he remarked. “Buyers aren’t just looking at floorplans – they’re responding to how the space makes them feel. And these unusual tricks can really tilt things in your favour.”

He presents five simple yet impactful alterations to improve your home’s ambiance, potentially speeding up its sale.
