By staff8 May 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

The body of a woman aged in her 50s has been found in the Lee Navigation in Homerton, east London, at around 11.40am yesterday, by police who are now investigating the case

A body of a woman in her 50s has been pulled from a canal leading to a police investigation with her identity unknown.

Police rushed to the Lee Navigation in Homerton, in east London, at around 11.40am on Wednesday, following reports of a body in the canal. They discovered the body of a woman in her 50s, and she was recovered from the water. But tragically the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a huge cordon remained in place yesterday as detectives start an investigation into who the woman was and what happened.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with her death. A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Wednesday, May 7, at 11.37am, police were called to the River Lee Navigation, Homerton, to reports of a body in the canal.

“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and Marine Support Unit. The body of a woman in her 50s was recovered from the water.

“Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Cordons remain in place and an investigation is under way to identify the female and inform her next of kin.”
