How Liverpool’s 17 loaned out players fared in 2024-25 as ‘superb’ star set for fresh start

Liverpool trusted their squad to take them to glory in 2024/25 with only Federico Chiesa added to Arne Slot’s team but the Reds sent 17 players out on loan in order to improve

Arne Slot’s Liverpool side enjoyed an impressive season as the Dutchman took charge in the Premier League for the first time. The Reds earned a dominant title win to spark jubilant celebrations at Anfield.

While Slot kept faith with the squad he inherited last summer, Liverpool still saw 17 players get on loan. And preparing for next season, the former Feyenoord boss will soon be making judgements on most of them once again.

The Reds have already signed Jeremie Frimpong, are making moves for Florian Wirtz and will eventually welcome Giorgi Mamardashvili. But can any of the young loanees work their way into Slot’s plans?

Mirror Football takes a look at how Liverpool’s stars who went on loan got on last term. Some impressed, while others were plagued by injury.

Calvin Ramsay – Wigan and Kilmarnock

The right-back struggled to break into the side at both Wigan and Kilmarnock, and only started one game for the Scottish side – his first after joining the club.

Fabian Mrozek – IF Brommapojkarna and Forest Green Rovers

The goalkeeper’s first spell on loan started in July as he moved to Sweden and played five games on the bounce before losing his place. Mrozek was Forest Green’s first choice when went on loan in February and kept three clean sheets in 10 games before his season ended early.

Luke Chambers – Wigan

Chambers barely missed a minute for Wigan to start the season before a back injury severely curtailed his progress. Just two appearances awaited after the start of October as he struggled to get back on the pitch and his loan was eventually terminated.

Lewis Koumas – Stoke City

The teenage winger bagged six goals and three assists across 49 appearances for Stoke in 2024/25 and fought his way into the team before seeing his minutes drop in the last month of the season.

Koumas played under four managers in his season away from the Reds after Steven Schumacher was sacked after just seven games, before Ryan Shawcross, Narcis Pelach and Mark Robins each took charge of the Potters.

Luca Stephenson – Dundee United

The midfielder travelled on tour to the United States before a loan move to Scotland was decided as the best course of action. It appears Dundee United want him to return to the club after he helped them qualify for Europe.

Stephenson was coy on the prospect. “I can’t say too much on it yet,” he said.

“I don’t know everything that’s going on. There’s going to be a lot of movement, a lot of talk over the summer, but we’ll see what happens.”

Rhys Williams – Morecambe

The central defender was a regular at on the north west coast and saw a half-season loan extended until the end of the season. Williams remains under contract at Liverpool until 2026.

Owen Beck – Blackburn Rovers

The full-back was a regular for the Lancashire side before seeing his season ended early due to a hamstring injury. The loanee picked up the injury in February before suffering a re-occurence of the problem 13 minuts into his return, having played 25 games for the club.

Beck’s season may best be rememebered for being bitten by Preston’s Milutin Osmajic.

Calum Scanlon – Millwall

Scanlon made his debut in September before scoring for Millwall in a three-game run in January. Scanlon was forced to return to Liverpool after suffering a ‘really bad hamstring injury’ early in 2025.

Stefan Bajcetic – Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas

The midfielder first followed Pep Lijnders to Red Bull Salzburg and was a regular under the former Liverpool coach but after the Dutchman was sacked, soon found himself on a second loan in La Liga. Bajcetic could not help Las Palmas avoid relegation but started 12 of 15 La Liga games in defensive midfielder and earned some promising reviewers.

It was suggested the ‘superb’ 20-year-old could start for any team in the league at one stage and Bajcetic is set to be handed an opportunity to impress Arne Slot come pre-season.

Marcelo Pitaluga – Livingston

The Brazilian goalkeeper made two Challenge Cup appearances for Livingstone in the first half of the season but left Anfield permanently in January. The 22-year-old made his return to Fluminense, the club the Reds signed him from, after more than four years with the club.

Nat Phillips – Derby County

Outside of injury, Phillips was a key performer for Derby last term as they avoided relegation by a narrow margin and he scored a crucial winning goal against Hull in the penultimate game of the season. Rams boss John Eustace would like to keep the defender at Pride Park.

Ben Doak – Middlesbrough

The young Scotland star was a standout performer for Middlesbrough as hes scored three goals and made seven assists in the first half of the season before picking up a hamstring injury that ended his season.

Kaide Gordon – Norwich City and Portsmouth

Gordon’s first real taste of senior football game this season after being plagued by injuries last term. The 20-year-old struggled to make a sustained impact at Norwich before being recalled and sent on loan to Portsmouth.

Gordon played just five games for Pompey however after featuring 10 times for the Canaries.

Jayden Danns – Sunderland

After scoring in the FA Cup and appearing in the Champions League, Danns earned a temporary switch to Sunderland for the remainder of the season.Unfortunately injury got in the way and he never made an appearance.

Jaub Ojrzynski – Spartakos Kitiou and Utsiktens BK

The young goalkeeper had a disastrous first loan that was forced to end early after administrative errors ensured he did not get international clearance. Ojrzynski has made a smattering of appearances in the Swedish second tier since joining Utsiktens in March.

Dominic Corness – Gillingham

After appearing in his first four games after moving, Corness was hampered by injury and a change in manager at Gillingham and did not feature again until the final two games of the season.

James Norris – Shelbourne

The 22-year-old made a switch to the Republic of Ireland and will remain with the club until November. The full-back has been a regular in the Shelbourne side.
