A major broadband provider with 95,000 customers is shutting down its services within weeks. Origin Broadband – which is a subsidiary of TalkTalk – is moving its broadband services to another provider from June 1, 2025.

From then, all customers currently with the provider for broadband or their home phone services will go to Utility Warehouse (UW). All those affected will not need to take any action, and their service and monthly bill will remain unchanged.

Officially, the supplier took on both broadband and home phone services on March 28 this year. However, Origin continued to manage customer issues and queries on behalf of Utility Warehouse. This will change on June 1, as Utility Warehouse will take over entirely.

Customers have been sent emails about the changes. One email sent to customers read: “We’re contacting you to let you know that Origin has made the difficult decision to exit the telecoms market.

“From March 28, Utility Warehouse Limited (UW) will provide your broadband and home phone services. Origin will support your broadband and home phone service and handle any queries you have regarding your account and service on UW’s behalf until June 1, 2025.”

Origin was taken over by TalkTalk in 2021 after the independent company fell into financial difficulty. According to a report from ISPreview, Origin stopped accepting new customers after the takeover. However, the company did briefly accept new customers late last year.

A TalkTalk spokesperson told ISPreviews: “TalkTalk and Utility Warehouse (UW) have enjoyed a long-standing partnership.

“As announced by Utility Warehouse recently, TalkTalk has agreed a partnership under which approximately 95,000 Origin customers will be transferred to UW. Impacted customers will be contacted ahead of migration. No decision has been taken on the future of the Origin brand.”

Stuart Burnett, chief executive of Utility Warehouse, added: “UW is delighted to welcome these customers into our growing base of well over one million customers, who benefit from the opportunity to make valuable ongoing savings when they bundle their utilities with us.”
