A makeup artist has shared her ultimate makeup products to last for your gym workout especially when getting your sweat on – as well as some products to steer clear of
As much as we want to look good while working out – there are certain makeup products you should avoid while getting your sweat on.
Fitness fanatics will regularly share their workouts online, they are also sharing their “workout makeup” as well. With over 56.7 million posts on TikTok related to ‘workout makeup’ and 20 million posts focused on pilates makeup, it is clear gym-proof beauty routines are taking over.
Influencers are sharing all of their top tricks to keep their makeup sweat-resistant, and beauty brand, Revolution Beauty reported that in the past month alone, Google searches for “how to make makeup sweatproof” have surged by 70%.
While looking good for pilates or a weight lifting session always makes you feel good, it’s not until you look in the mirror afterwards to see it all melted off. With this in mind, one of the brand’s makeup artists, Mel Trierweiler, has shared her top tips for mastering the trend, as well as which products to steer clear of for workouts.
Mel advised that you should always avoid heavy foundations, full-coverage concealers and powders when working out as these can block your pores and mix with sweat which “may cause skin irritation or breakouts” and the expert said to instead look for “non-comedogenic options.
“It’s also best to avoid regular mascaras, as they can smudge and irritate the eyes. Instead, opt for a waterproof mascara that’s designed to endure sweat and humidity without budging. In terms of specific ingredients to stay clear of, avoid products with heavy oils, alcohol, and silicone. These ingredients can clog your pores, mix with sweat, and cause breakouts.”
For those who want to apply some makeup ahead of their workout, Mel said lightweight products with skincare benefits are a great choice. Gym friendly products include serum foundations which she said are “ideal as they provide a breathable, non-comedogenic formula that evens out skin tone while keeping your complexion looking fresh and healthy.”
She suggested to look for options enriched with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and peptides to hydrate and plump the skin. Mel also advised gym goers to spritz setting spray to keep your makeup looking intact and last longer even when sweating. Revolution Superfix Misting Setting Spray is Mel’s favoruite as it “instantly locks your look in place and leaves your complexion with a shine-free finish.”
After your workout, it’s essential to properly clean your skin, and the expert has given her ultimate post-workout skincare routine. She said first you should thoroughly cleanse the skin to remove sweat, makeup and excess oils with a good cleanser or collagen cleansing balm.
Next she said to moisturise after cleansing to “restore hydration with a quality moisturiser to keep your skin nourished and balanced” and said to opt for a hydrating formula that “replenishes moisture and revitalises your complexion”
