A police detective and mum-of-three tragically died just a week after undergoing a bum lift and liposuction procedure, according to reports, and her husband received a pretty blunt phone call to deliver the heartbreaking news.

Alicia Stone, 40, who served in the New York Police Department (NYPD), was found unresponsive in her hotel room and rushed to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital in Colombia.

Despite being checked in for treatment, Alicia, a 13-year veteran of the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau, was pronounced dead within an hour, sources revealed.

Her cause of death was recorded as “unspecified cardiac arrest”. Michael, Alicia’s husband, has called for an investigation into the sudden death of his wife, stating that “something doesn’t add up”.

The mum-of-three had undergone a gluteal fat transfer and liposuction procedure just days before her hospitalisation and had been on anticoagulants and pain medication, as reported by the New York Daily News..

“The doctor who called me from Colombia just called me and told me my wife had just passed away,” a distraught Michael shared.

“She didn’t have any information to tell me when I was asking her … Something just doesn’t add up. To be called [on] Thursday and told that she passed away, that is just shocking and hurtful,” he added.

Michael added that his wife had been “perfectly fine” prior to the surgery and even felt well the day before her untimely demise. “I don’t have the facts, and that’s what I need, the facts of what happened,” he expressed.

A fundraising page set up to support Alicia’s family described her as a “loving mother of three” and a “dedicated public servant who spent her career protecting and serving others”, reports the Express.

“Alicia’s kindness, courage and compassion touched everyone she met, both in and out of uniform,” it added.

“Her unexpected passing has left a tremendous void in the lives of her family, friends and fellow officers.”

Research published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2017 indicated that buttock enhancement operations could be 10 to 20 times as dangerous as other types of cosmetic procedures carried out in the US.

Worldwide, it is estimated that one in 3,448 patients died following the procedure, a considerably higher rate than the US death rate from cosmetic surgery in general, which stands at roughly one in 55,000.
