‘I bought £4 Too Good To Go bag from Morrisons but contents left me fuming’

By staff27 September 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

A woman who paid £4 for a Too Good To Go bag from Morrisons shared the contents of her bag online as she was unhappy with what she got – but others said she ‘won’

Too Good To Go bags are a great way to help reduce food waste, but they can be a bit of a gamble. Restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets can sign up to the Too Good To Go app and list mystery bags for a drastically reduced price, which customers can then buy. These bags are full of whatever food the company needs to get rid of that day, so the contents always vary.

The idea of the bags is to help companies reduce the amount of food they throw away at the end of the day, while offering a bargain to customers who can scoop up a bag of goodies for a huge discount. However, the nature of the bags means you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get – and it isn’t always what you expect.

One woman was left furious when she picked up two Too Good To Go bags from Morrisons. She said she bought two bags for £4 and excitedly rushed home with her haul – only to be left bitterly disappointed when she opened them up.

Inside both bags were a large number of freshly baked baguettes that needed to be given away before they went stale and could no longer be sold at full price.

The woman tipped her baguette haul onto her kitchen counter and uploaded a video to TikTok that showed off the immense mountain of bread. She did not specify how many baguettes she got in her bags, but said they were each reduced to 20p – meaning she’d need to have been given at least 20 to make the £4 price worth it.

At least 16 baguettes can be counted in the video, and with some buried under the ones that could be seen on the top of the pile, there were likely far more than 20 baguettes in total.

The woman captioned her video with a light-hearted comment, which read: “Guys, do NOT use Too Good To Go. I’ve been cursed [with] death by one thousand baguettes.”

Commenters, however, pointed out she actually “hit the jackpot” as bread can easily be frozen and she’d save a small fortune on buying bread for the next few weeks – or even months.

One person said: “You can freeze bread. [That’s] infinite sandwiches.”

Another added: “Bread stores decently well in freezers. You could also make breadcrumbs from it that should help it store as well!”

The official TikTok account for Too Good To Go also replied, saying: “Cursed or blessed? You helped reduce food waste, and now you’ve got an endless supply of sandwiches.”

Too Good To Go bags will vary depending on what food needs to be given away at the end of the day, and according to a spokesperson, bread is one of the most common items to find inside the mystery bags.

They told The Mirror: “Too Good To Go Surprise Bags are designed to reflect surplus food that is left unsold at the end of the day, and it’s also a reminder of just how much bread often goes to waste in the UK.

“The good news is that bread is one of the easiest foods to save and enjoy beyond its Best Before date. Spare bread can go straight in the freezer, be toasted back to life, or turned into croutons, French toast, breadcrumbs – even a classic bread and butter pudding.

“However you use it, every Surprise Bag helps save good food from going to waste – and that’s a win for both people and the planet.”

A Morrisons spokeswoman also said: “Our Too Good To Go Surprise Bags contain a mix of food items that are at risk of going to waste that day. Given the unpredictable nature of food waste, it can be difficult to know what types of food will be available each day.

“Items may be close to their Best Before/Display Until date, but can still be perfectly good to eat. However, we always want to ensure the best customer experience and strive for variety where possible.”
