‘I bought seven-inch pizza from Domino’s but was fuming when it arrived’

The unhappy Domino’s customer said he hasn’t returned to the popular food chain since making the unusual discovery about his £4 lunch deal pizza

A tradesman has expressed frustration over what he received as part of Domino’s £4 lunch deal. Mark Gourley, a kitchen sprayer from Northern Ireland, said he was looking forward to tucking into a seven-inch BBQ chicken and bacon pizza when he noticed something unusual.

Having enjoyed the chain’s £4 deal for several days in a row on his lunch break earlier this month, the 30-year-old had become used to the size and taste of the food on offer.

However, after placing a pizza order on the fourth day, Mark said it looked smaller than usual, so decided to investigate. Mark, not the first Domino’s customer to be left surprised at what has shown up at the door, reached for a tape measure.

He claimed that the pizza came in at just five and a half inches on one side – notably smaller than the seven inches that is advertised.

A summary of the deal on the Domino’s website reads: “These personal 7” pizzas perfectly hit the spot for one. They’re made up of our famous fresh dough base, topped with Domino’s tomato sauce, and our best-selling toppings for that unmistakable Domino’s taste.”

The website also promotes: “Personal pizzas, Hot & Cheesy Wraps, delicious chicken… at just £4 each. For those days when last night’s leftovers just won’t cut it, enter our new £4 lunch offer.”

Sharing his frustration, Mark said: “I went up and collected the pizza on my lunch break. I went back to work and realised it looked smaller than seven inches, so I thought I would measure it to see.

“It was six and a half inches one way and the other way was five and a half inches. There was over an inch missing [from one side]. I was quite annoyed. I’m paying for seven inches so I expect to get the size I pay for.”

The former Subway colleague said he tried to contact his local Domino’s store in Newtownards in County Down to complain, but couldn’t get through to staff.

With no luck on the phone, he took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to get the company’s attention.

From his account, he posted pictures of the pizza he received alongside his tape measure, and wrote: “What is this @Dominos_UK? [A] seven-inch pizza shouldn’t be any less than seven inches.”

Mark said the official account of Domino’s responded by advising him to contact his local store. He added: “I tried that and they hadn’t answered. It was disappointing.”

The pizza fan went on to say he hasn’t returned to the chain since the discovery, but wouldn’t rule out ordering from then again – albeit cautiously.

“I would order from them again in the future but I would be more wary about it,” he added.

Domino’s has been contacted for comment.
