‘I bought smoked salmon from Harrods and price could feed family for weeks’

By staff12 June 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

When a woman and her mum tried salmon with an extortionate price tag, people had a lot of thoughts. Many pointed out the cost could’ve fed an entire family

With the cost of supermarket items ever-rising, many people have become skilled at getting their groceries as cheap as possible. However, there are some who are spending lots of money on items you can get for much cheaper, such as Carmie Sellitto, who spent a whopping £50 on cheese from Harrods.

She’s not the only one who has been drawn to the luxury department store in recent weeks. Recently, Laura Khoshaba purchased some salmon from Harrods. To people’s horror, the price was so eye-watering that it could have fed a family for weeks. Laura said: “We’re going to be trying the £175 smoked salmon from Harrods. This is supposed to be the best smoked salmon in the world”.

But in the comments, some were horrified at the price, with one TikToker fuming: “I genuinely wouldn’t care if it was smoked with the fumes from the Vatican when St Francis died, I wouldn’t pay £175 for a fish”.

Others accused her of having “more money than sense,” especially as smoked salmon can be acquired for less than £4 in most supermarkets. But what did she and her mum Ann think of the expensive fish?

The pair pulled it out of the packaging – and it did look like a lovely piece of salmon. Ann cut some slices from the salmon as Laura explained: “So this is smoked in Switzerland”.

Ann then shared that they were going to try it “without cream cheese, to get the full flavour”. They popped the salmon onto a blini and added some dill on top.

When the pair tried the salmon, Ann said: “Wow, already,” with Laura commenting the morsel was “like butter”.

“It’s like melting in the mouth,” Ann gushed, continuing: “This has to be the best smoked salmon I’ve ever had.” Laura agreed that it was the “best” that she’d had, saying it was “incredible.”

Considering they paid so much, we’d blooming well hope so! But people in the comments section weren’t as impressed by the review of the “buttery” fish.

One viewer fumed: “If it’s so like butter, why don’t you just get butter and save £175?” Meanwhile, another said: “Biting into something with the texture like butter would make me gag”.

A third remarked: “I can’t believe you ate such a beautiful piece of salmon in such hunking great pieces.” And another urged Laura to “thinly slice it”.

However, the foodie defended herself. Laura clarified they had consumed the salmon just how they were “told to have it”.

Even though the experience was a real treat for the pair, others felt sad watching the short clip.

One critic wrote: “I know it’s not their fault, but it does pain me that people live like this whilst others can’t even afford a tin of salmon.”

However, another defended Laura and her mum. They replied: “We all choose what we spend our money on. You do too!”
